The Padres hoped that Juan Soto would be added to their team, which could help them win the World Series.ย It’s difficult to say that this likely puts them out of the conversation, but it’s certain going to be harder than before.
Preller had the following to say, according to ESPN:
โHeโs somebody that from the organizationโs standpoint weโve invested time and money into,โ Preller told reporters. โWhen heโs on the field, heโs a difference-maker. You have to learn from the situations. We were hoping that from the offseason to now that there would be some maturity, and obviously with the news today, itโs more of a pattern and itโs something that weโve got to dig a bit more into. โฆ Iโm sure heโs very disappointed. But at the end of the day, itโs one thing to say it. Youโve got to start showing by your actions.โ
Preller added: โI think what we need to get to is a point in time we trust [him]. Over the last six or seven months, thatโs been something we havenโt been able to have there.
โI think from our standpoint. Obviously, heโs a great talent, heโs a guy we have a lot of history with and do believe in, but these things only work when thereโs trust both ways.โ
The Padres will have to figure this out with Fernando Tatis. Heโs one of the best baseball players and will be vital to San Diegoโs success in the coming decade.
