Baton Rouge, Louisiana, will have its first land-based casino, Queen Baton Rouge. The casino officials have confirmed it will open its door on August 24 at 9 p.m. CDT.
The casino was previously known as the Hollywood Casino Baton Rouge. It has undergone extensive renovations and property expansions, costing a total of $85 million.
The renovations on the casino started in August 2021. However, it experienced a delay due to increasing construction costs. The casino’s proximity to the Mississippi River also poses a high risk of floods. The elevated water levels could disrupt the construction progress and the overall functioning of the casino.
“We are thrilled to debut what will be an unmatched gaming and entertainment destination in Louisiana for sports wagering, gaming, entertainment and dining,” said Terry Downey, president and CEO of the casino’s parent company, Queen Casino & Entertainment.
The new casino will benefit the city and its residents. It plans to employ around 100 people to work at the casino. Around 20 individuals have already been hired through recent job fairs.
Meanwhile, Viking River Cruises will purchase the riverboat that used to accommodate the slot machines and table games. This acquisition will provide passengers with convenient transportation to the city center.
The property has expanded from its original size of 62,000 square feet to now over 100,000 square feet. One notable expansion is the casino atrium which provides an extra 33,000 square feet.
“The Queen Baton Rouge ushers in a new era not just for this historic property but for gaming and entertainment throughout the region.”
Terry Downey, Queen Casino & Entertainment president and CEO
The valet parking area was transformed into an indoor space for guests. A riverboat boasting 731 slot machines and 18 table games was transported from the water onto the land.
A significant highlight of the new casino is the DraftKings sportsbook. Guests can engage in sports betting in 20 kiosks and four betting windows.
The casino also features LIT Casino & Bar. This area is a lively smoking patio where guests can enjoy craft cocktails, beer and wine. It also provides access to 150 gaming machines.
