While neither team was fighting for the championship, their rivalry reignited as both battled for “best of the rest” behind Mercedes and Red Bull. With Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz taking on McLaren’s Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, the battle for third in the constructors’ standings was fierce.

Ricciardo’s win at Monza and Norris’s podium finishes kept McLaren in the fight, while Ferrari’s late-season surge ensured they took third overall. In the later years whilst Red Bull was the dominant team, both Ferrari and McLaren are both enjoying a new resurgence in the sport.

Ferrari hadn’t won a drivers’ title since 1979, but in 2000, Michael Schumacher finally ended the drought. His battle with McLaren’s Mika Häkkinen was intense, especially with both drivers trading wins throughout the season. Schumacher clinched the championship in Japan, marking the beginning of Ferrari’s early 2000s dominance and shifting the balance of power back to the Scuderia after years of McLaren success.
