Gauff Favored in semis
Gauff (-280) is the favorite to beat Martina Trevisan (+240) in the women’s semifinals. Trevisan defeated Leylah Annie Fernandez, 2021 U.S. Open Finalist, 6-2.6-7.6-3. Fernandez was suffering a foot injury that was affecting her movement. Trevisan defeated Gauff head-to-head in their last matchup, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5. This was in the second round at the 2020 French Open.
Semifinal for Other Women
The semifinal for women features the number one seed, heavy French Open favourite Iga Swiatek of Poland (-900), against Daria Kasatkina from Russia (+640). The 2020 French Open champion Swiatek defeated Jessica Pegula, 11th seed, 6-3, and 6-2 in the quarterfinals. This was a controversial quarterfinal. Swiatek defeated Pegula in the first set. This was after the tennis ball bounced twice on Swiatek’s side of the court. Kasatkina beat Verionika Kudermetova, the Russian 29th seed, 6-4 and 7-6. Swiatek has a record of 3-1 against Kasatkina all time. Swiatek defeated Kasatkina 6-3 and 6-3 in Round 3 of the Australian Open.
