Djokovic is among two tennis players (Robin Soderling from Sweden) who have beaten Nadal at French Open during Nadal’s incredible French Open career. Djokovic beat Nadal twice, in the quarterfinals of the 2015 French Open as well as the semifinals of the 2021 French Open. Djokovic has been beaten by Nadal at the French Open in 2006 quarterfinals. After a thrilling five-set victory over Felix Auger Aliassime from Canada in the fourth round, Nadal was able to reach the 2022 French Open. Nadal defeated the ninth seed 3-6 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3. Auger-Aliassime was one of the two-seeded opponents Nadal defeated on his way to the quarterfinals. Botic van der Zandschulp, 26th seed from the Netherlands, was the other player Nadal defeated easily, 6-3. Djokovic beat Diego Schwartzman, an Argentine 20th seed, and 2020 French Open semi-finalist, 6-1 in the fourth round. The remaining three quarterfinals
One of the three quarterfinals has Scandinavian players with similar last names. Holger Rune, of Denmark (+170), is the underdog against the eighth seed Casper Ruud (-195). Rune stunned Stefanos Tsitsipas, the 2021 French Open winner, on Monday (7-5, 3-3, 6-3 and 6-4). The quarterfinals feature the 20th seed, and 2014 U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic (-136), against the seventh seed Andrey Rulev (-156), Carlos Alcaraz (-436) and Alexander Zverev (+1346).
