Five American women are still participating in the 2022 French Open. The five remaining American women in the fourth round include Jessica Pegula, Buffalo, New York; 18th ranked Coco Galuff of Atlanta, Georgia; 22nd ranked Madison Keys, Rock Island, Illinois; 27th ranked Amanda Anisimova, Freehold Township, New Jersey; and Sloane Stephens, Plantation, Florida. Pegula defeated Tamara Zidansek from Slovenia 6-1, 7-6 in round three. She will face Irina Camelia Begu from Romania in the fourth round. Begu and Pegula have met once before on the WTA Tour. This was in the first round 2022 Melbourne Summer Set, in which Begu won 7-6 and 6-3.
In round three, Gauff defeated Kaia Kanepi of Estonia 6-3,6-4.ย Gauff’s next opponent is Elise Mertens, a 2018 Australian Open semifinalist from Belgium. She is the 31st seed.ย Gauff beat Mertens 0-6, 7-6, 7-5 in their previous meeting at Eastbourne 2021.ย Gauff (-216) is preferred over Mertens (+186).
Round three saw Keys defeat Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan 3-6 6-1, 7-6. Keys next opponent is Veronika Kudermetova, Russia’s 29th-ranked. This will be their first-ever encounter head-to-head. According to Caesars Sportsbook, Keys is currently the favourite at -122 while Kudermetova stands at +102.
Anisimova defeated Karolina Muchova 6-7,6-2,3-0 in round three. Muchova had to withdraw due to an ankle injury. Anisimova is next up and is the 2019 French Open semifinalist. She will be playing against Leylah Annie Fernandez, the 17th seed in the 2021 United States Open. Anisimova defeated Fernandez in Indian Wells’ second round when Anisimova was ill. Fan Duel shows that Anisimova (+190) is the favorite over Fernandez (+165).
Stephens defeated Diane Parry from France in round three 6-2, 3-1. Jil Teichmann (185) from Switzerland is next up for Stephens (+165). It will be their first-ever encounter. Stephens won the 2017 U.S. Open. However, everyone remembers her reaching the French Open final in 2018. She lost to Simona Halep, Romania, 3-6 6-4, 6-1.
