Djokovic has won 27 consecutive Wimbledon matches and didn’t panic when he lost the first set against Cameron Norrie in his semifinal match. It seems like ages ago when anyone beat Djokovic at All England Club. Djokovic was quite the opposite. He raised his game to an extraordinary level and won his 43rd match in a Major, even though he had dropped the first set. According to ESPN Stats & Info, he is now in second place in the Open Era. He trails only Andre Agassi with 44 wins. Check out the best bookmakers for betting on the Wimbledon Final.
Djokovic had lost 13 points on serve in the first set and six in the second. His percentage of first serves was only 55% in the first set. He also has maintained his streak of not losing a grass-court tournament for four years.
Many believed they witnessed a fantastic career when Kyrgios beat Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon 2014. The Australian’s career has not been as successful as one might have hoped since, though he is a product of the Big Three era. The world number one. He also didn’t have to play Rafael Nadal in the semifinals. But, this would not be enough to show how well Kyrgios has performed and that he has won 13 out of 15 grass matches this year.
Kyrgios’s powerful serve has helped him to six consecutive victories at Wimbledon. His serve rating of 298.9, which he achieved in the tournament, was third on tour, behind John Isner and Reilly Opelka. He has also used his serve to frustrate Djokovic in their two only career matches, defeating the Serbian 7-6 (7-5) in Acapulco 2017 and 7-6 (7-6) at Indian Wells in 2017).
If Wimbledon had been an old ATP tournament, Djokovic would have packed his bags by now. He lost the first two sets to Jannik Siner. Djokovic is difficult to beat in Grand Slams (333–47, 87.6% winning rate in Majors) because it is almost impossible to stay mentally focused and physically fit for five sets. Djokovic will try to extend rallies and trade groundstrokes to test Kyrgios’ grit. Although Kyrgios has the advantage of more rest before the match, it will not be enough for him to defeat the three-time champion.
Kyrgios’ serve, and his head-to-head success against Djokovic, should be good enough to get him at least one set. We will not bet on Djokovic’s match because his -425 money line odds are too high. Instead, we will go for better value and predict that he will win the match in four sets.
