FC Cincinnati closes a grueling three-match MLS week Saturday night when the Orange and Blue welcome the Seattle Sounders to TQL Stadium for a rare cross-conference showdown.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET, with the match streaming globally on Apple TV. FC Cincinnati’s official schedule confirms the Saturday night matchup at TQL Stadium, while ESPN listed resale tickets starting around $25 at the time of writing.
The circumstances surrounding the two clubs could hardly be more different.
Cincinnati enters at 8-6-6 with 30 points, sitting fifth in the Eastern Conference after Wednesday’s dramatic 2-1 victory over New York City FC. Seattle arrives at 7-9-3 with 24 points, sitting 12th in the Western Conference after losing 2-1 at home to Austin FC.
Seattle’s defeat was especially significant.
It extended the Sounders’ MLS losing streak to a club-record eight consecutive league matches. Cincinnati, meanwhile, has won four straight MLS games at TQL Stadium.
The betting market consequently favors the Orange and Blue.
One current market lists Cincinnati around -125, the draw around +320 and Seattle approximately +240. The total-goals market is aggressive, with Over 3.5 around -110 and Under 3.5 near -125.
Cincinnati has the form.
Cincinnati has home-field advantage.
And Cincinnati has perhaps the most dangerous individual player in the matchup.
His name is Evander.
Wednesday night’s victory over NYCFC looked destined for a 1-1 draw.
Then Evander happened.
Gerardo Valenzuela redirected Pavel Bucha’s pass into the penalty area during first-half stoppage time—actually second-half stoppage time—and Evander created enough space to fire a left-footed winner in the 91st minute, giving Cincinnati a 2-1 victory.
The goal was another addition to an extraordinary season.
Evander enters Saturday with 12 MLS goals and 11 assists, giving him 23 goal contributions through 20 league appearances. Seattle’s official preview identifies him as the MLS leader in goal contributions and notes that he has scored in 14 of his last 16 appearances across all competitions.
He is not merely producing numbers.
He is deciding games.
Wednesday marked Evander’s fourth stoppage-time goal for FC Cincinnati and his third stoppage-time game-winner, both club records.
That becomes especially important against a Seattle team attempting to rebuild its confidence.
If the Sounders allow Evander to receive possession between the midfield and defensive lines, the entire Cincinnati attack becomes more dangerous.
He can shoot.
He can create.
He can draw defenders.
And once additional defenders move toward him, Cincinnati’s other attackers receive space.
TQL Stadium has again become one of Cincinnati’s greatest weapons.
The Orange and Blue improved to 7-2-1 at home in MLS competition by defeating NYCFC and have now won four consecutive league matches at TQL Stadium.
That streak includes some explosive offensive performances.
Cincinnati defeated Vancouver Whitecaps 4-3.
It defeated San Jose 4-2.
And it followed those results by defeating NYCFC 2-1.
Six of Cincinnati’s previous seven MLS home matches have produced at least four goals, according to one current betting market’s trend data.
There is a reason.
Cincinnati plays aggressively at home.
Evander can dictate tempo.
Kévin Denkey gives the Orange and Blue a legitimate center-forward threat.
Pavel Bucha attacks from midfield.
Kenji Mboma Dem provides another dangerous finisher.
Wednesday offered another example.
Mboma Dem opened the scoring in the 11th minute after Evander’s long pass helped initiate the attack. NYCFC equalized ten minutes later, but Cincinnati continued pushing until Evander finally delivered the winner.
Saturday could demand similar patience.
Seattle is one of Major League Soccer’s most accomplished organizations.
That history does not change the reality of its current situation.
The Sounders have lost eight consecutive MLS matches.
The latest came Wednesday at Lumen Field.
Seattle remained scoreless until the closing moments as Austin received goals from Facundo Torres in the 66th minute and Guilherme Biro in the 87th. Stuart Hawkins finally pulled one back for Seattle in the 90th minute, but the comeback ended there.
The final numbers demonstrate why Cincinnati cannot simply dismiss the Sounders.
Seattle generated 18 shots and seven shots on goal against Austin.
That is significant offensive activity.
The Sounders simply could not convert enough of those opportunities.
That has become one of their biggest problems.
Cincinnati has scored 48 goals through 20 MLS matches.
Seattle has scored only 21 through 19.
One team has consistently finished opportunities.
The other has struggled to turn possession and chances into goals.
Seattle’s record should not cause Cincinnati to underestimate Albert Rusnák.
The Slovakian midfielder remains one of MLS’s most experienced attacking playmakers.
His assist on Hawkins’ goal against Austin was the 150th regular-season goal contribution of his MLS career, giving him 73 goals and 77 assists across his time with Real Salt Lake and Seattle.
Rusnák leads the Sounders with 33 chances created entering Saturday.
That makes Cincinnati’s midfield discipline critical.
If Obinna Nwobodo and Bucha become too aggressive pushing forward, Rusnák can exploit the resulting space.
Seattle does not necessarily need sustained possession to become dangerous.
A turnover.
A quick forward pass.
A well-timed run.
Suddenly Rusnák is delivering the final ball.
Paul Rothrock has emerged as Seattle’s leading MLS scorer with five goals.
That number may not look overwhelming compared with Cincinnati’s leading attackers, but Rothrock remains one of Seattle’s most active threats. He has also created 17 scoring chances.
Cincinnati must be particularly careful defending wide areas.
Seattle’s greatest opportunity may come from forcing Cincinnati’s wingbacks backward and attacking before the Orange and Blue can reset their defensive structure.
That matters because Cincinnati has hardly been dominant defensively.
The Orange and Blue have allowed 46 goals through 20 MLS games, the third-most in the league according to Seattle’s official match preview.
Cincinnati can score with anyone.
It has also demonstrated that opponents can score against Cincinnati.
That is why Saturday could become considerably more competitive than Seattle’s losing streak suggests.
FC Cincinnati is the strongest overall betting selection.
Current prices put the Orange and Blue around -125, depending on the sportsbook.
There are three major reasons.
First, Cincinnati is 7-2-1 at TQL Stadium in league play and has won four consecutive MLS home games.
Second, Seattle has lost eight consecutive league matches.
Third, Cincinnati possesses the best attacking player in the matchup.
Evander leads MLS with 23 goal contributions.
Seattle needs nearly everything to go correctly to contain him while simultaneously creating enough chances to expose Cincinnati’s vulnerable defense.
The Sounders may score.
They may make Cincinnati uncomfortable.
But asking Seattle to end an eight-match league losing streak at TQL Stadium against an in-form Evander is difficult.
Recommendation: FC Cincinnati Moneyline.
Evander is playing at an extraordinary level.
He enters Saturday with 12 league goals and has scored in 14 of his previous 16 matches across all competitions.
Current anytime goalscorer markets have listed Evander around +130.
That price is attractive considering his role.
Evander gets opportunities from open play.
He is dangerous from outside the penalty area.
He handles major set-piece responsibilities.
And he possesses the individual skill to create a scoring opportunity without relying completely on service from teammates.
Wednesday’s goal against NYCFC was the perfect example.
Nothing appeared particularly dangerous.
Then Evander received possession inside the box, turned and fired Cincinnati to three points.
Seattle has spent weeks attempting to rediscover its defensive confidence.
Evander is not the player a struggling team wants to face.
Recommendation: Evander Anytime Goalscorer.
Both Teams to Score may be the most interesting supporting play.
Prediction markets currently give BTTS Yes approximately a 70% probability.
Cincinnati has scored 48 league goals.
It has also conceded 46.
That combination tells the story.
The Orange and Blue possess one of MLS’s most explosive attacks but have rarely been comfortable defensively.
Seattle’s finishing has been poor, but Wednesday’s performance against Austin showed the Sounders can still generate opportunities.
Seattle finished with 18 shots and seven on target.
Rusnák can create.
Rothrock can finish.
And Cincinnati is playing its third match in eight days.
Fatigue could become particularly important during the second half.
Seattle scoring once is very realistic.
Cincinnati scoring at least once appears even more likely.
Recommendation: Both Teams to Score — Yes.
Evander will receive most of the attention.
That could create opportunities for Kévin Denkey.
Denkey enters Saturday with 11 MLS goals, making him Cincinnati’s second-leading scorer behind Evander. ESPN’s current match page lists Evander with 12 goals and Denkey with 11.
Current anytime goalscorer markets list Denkey around +105, although prices will vary.
Denkey’s value comes from his positioning.
Evander can operate almost anywhere.
Denkey is much more focused on the most valuable scoring areas.
He occupies center backs.
He attacks crosses.
He provides a target when Cincinnati transitions quickly.
And when opponents commit an extra defender toward Evander, Denkey is frequently the player who benefits.
Seattle has spent much of its recent skid chasing games.
If Cincinnati scores first Saturday, the Sounders eventually must push additional players forward.
That could create exactly the kind of space Denkey needs.
Recommendation: Kévin Denkey Anytime Goalscorer.
The opening 20 minutes could tell us plenty.
Seattle desperately needs something positive.
An early goal.
A sustained stretch of possession.
A few important defensive stops.
Anything that prevents an eight-match losing streak from becoming the dominant thought.
Cincinnati should attempt to prevent that confidence from developing.
Pat Noonan’s team has enough attacking talent to press Seattle immediately.
Evander can find Denkey.
Bucha can attack the second ball.
Mboma Dem can make runs into open space.
But Cincinnati cannot become reckless.
Seattle generated enough opportunities against Austin to prove it remains dangerous.
Rusnák’s passing remains a threat.
Rothrock can attack from wider positions.
And even defender Stuart Hawkins demonstrated Seattle’s set-piece danger by scoring Wednesday.
Cincinnati therefore needs controlled aggression.
Attack.
Press.
Force Seattle backward.
But maintain enough defensive balance to prevent Rusnák from turning a Cincinnati turnover into a counterattack.
Evander, FC Cincinnati: The Brazilian enters with 12 MLS goals, 11 assists and a league-leading 23 goal contributions. His winner against NYCFC was his third stoppage-time game-winning goal for Cincinnati.
Kévin Denkey, FC Cincinnati: Denkey has scored 11 MLS goals and remains Cincinnati’s primary central finishing threat. His combination play with Evander should be one of Seattle’s biggest defensive concerns.
Kenji Mboma Dem, FC Cincinnati: Mboma Dem scored Cincinnati’s opening goal against NYCFC and continues to provide another dangerous option around Denkey and Evander.
Pavel Bucha, FC Cincinnati: Bucha recorded an assist on Evander’s game-winning sequence Wednesday and provides Cincinnati with a midfielder capable of both creating and arriving late inside the penalty area.
Roman Celentano, FC Cincinnati: Celentano made seven saves against NYCFC. Cincinnati’s defensive issues have made his shot-stopping increasingly important.
Albert Rusnák, Seattle Sounders: Rusnák recorded his 150th career MLS goal contribution Wednesday and leads Seattle with 33 chances created entering the Cincinnati match.
Paul Rothrock, Seattle Sounders: Rothrock leads Seattle with five MLS goals and represents one of the Sounders’ most dangerous attacking options.
Stuart Hawkins, Seattle Sounders: The 19-year-old Homegrown defender scored his first career MLS goal against Austin and could again become dangerous on Seattle set pieces.
FC Cincinnati and Seattle have rarely played one another.
Saturday represents only the fourth all-time MLS meeting between the clubs.
Their first matchup was historically significant.
FC Cincinnati played its first-ever MLS match in Seattle on March 2, 2019. Leonardo Bertone gave Cincinnati an early lead before Seattle responded with four unanswered goals and won 4-1.
The teams met again in September 2022.
That match finished 1-1 at Seattle.
Then came Cincinnati’s breakthrough.
On March 11, 2023, the Orange and Blue defeated Seattle 1-0 at TQL Stadium, with Brenner scoring the decisive second-half goal. Seattle’s current official preview identifies that as the most recent meeting between the clubs.
That leaves the all-time MLS series perfectly balanced entering Saturday:
FC Cincinnati: 1 win
Seattle Sounders: 1 win
Draws: 1
Saturday breaks the tie.
Prediction: FC Cincinnati 3, Seattle Sounders FC 1
Best Bet: FC Cincinnati Moneyline
Seattle is better than an eight-match league losing streak might suggest.
The Sounders created 18 shots Wednesday.
Rusnák remains dangerous.
Rothrock can score.
And Cincinnati’s defense has conceded 46 goals, making it difficult to project a clean sheet.
But eventually results matter.
Seattle keeps losing.
Cincinnati keeps winning at TQL Stadium.
The Orange and Blue have won four consecutive MLS home matches, while Seattle arrives with eight consecutive league defeats.
Then there is the Evander factor.
Twelve goals.
Eleven assists.
Twenty-three goal contributions.
Goals in 14 of his last 16 matches across all competitions.
Seattle may successfully contain him for stretches.
Containing him for 90 minutes is considerably more difficult.
Denkey creates another problem.
Mboma Dem creates another.
Bucha can attack from midfield.
Cincinnati’s offensive depth should eventually force Seattle into difficult decisions.
Expect the Sounders to remain competitive early.
Seattle may even score.
But if Cincinnati gets the opening goal, an opponent riding an eight-match MLS losing streak will be forced to chase the game in one of the league’s most difficult road environments.
That is exactly when Evander and Denkey become most dangerous.
Look for Seattle to stay within striking distance through the opening hour before Cincinnati creates separation late.
Final Prediction: FC Cincinnati 3, Seattle Sounders FC 1
Best Bet: FC Cincinnati Moneyline
Additional Plays: Evander Anytime Goalscorer | Both Teams to Score — Yes | Kévin Denkey Anytime Goalscorer
