FC Cincinnati will attempt to complete a perfect Leagues Cup Phase One run Tuesday night when the Orange and Blue welcome Liga MX side Atlas FC to TQL Stadium.

Cincinnati enters its final Phase One match with six points and a +4 goal differential after defeating Pachuca 3-1 and Pumas UNAM 2-0. Atlas enters from the opposite direction, having lost 3-1 to Columbus Crew and 2-0 to Charlotte FC. The two defeats have already eliminated Atlas from quarterfinal contention.

Tuesday’s matchup kicks off at 8:00 p.m. ET and will air on Apple TV, FS1 and UniMás.

The betting market reflects the dramatically different tournament performances. Cincinnati is approximately a -160 to -182 favorite in the regulation moneyline market, with Atlas around +420 and the draw near +335 depending on the sportsbook.

Cincinnati has averaged 2.5 goals per match while allowing only 0.5 during Leagues Cup play. Atlas has produced the exact opposite numbers, averaging 0.5 goals while surrendering 2.5.

The Orange and Blue opened the tournament by falling behind Pachuca in the eighth minute before responding with three unanswered goals.

Evander equalized with a spectacular long-range strike, Pavel Bucha gave Cincinnati the lead before halftime and Kenji Mboma Dem finished the 3-1 victory in the 70th minute.

Cincinnati followed that performance by defeating Pumas 2-0.

Bucha once again delivered a critical goal, scoring in first-half stoppage time after receiving a clever pass from Evander. Mboma Dem then scored for the second consecutive match in the 90th+3 minute after Ender Echenique started a counterattack.

The result gave Cincinnati six points with a +4 goal differential after two matches. It also produced Pat Noonan’s 100th career victory as FC Cincinnati head coach.

Cincinnati’s attacking depth has been particularly impressive.

Evander remains the creative centerpiece, but opponents cannot simply devote all their defensive attention to Cincinnati’s Brazilian playmaker.

Bucha has scored in each of the first two Leagues Cup matches. Mboma Dem has also scored against both Pachuca and Pumas. Denkey provides a powerful presence near the penalty area, while Valenzuela, Echenique and Bryan Ramirez can create opportunities from deeper and wider positions.

Cincinnati has also been extremely dangerous at TQL Stadium recently.

The Orange and Blue defeated San Jose 4-2 immediately before the Leagues Cup break and have followed that result with victories over Pachuca and Pumas. That gives Cincinnati nine goals across its last three home matches.

There is still one concern.

Opponents continue to generate opportunities.

Goalkeeper Evan Louro recorded 11 saves across Cincinnati’s first two Leagues Cup matches. Noonan acknowledged after the Pumas victory that the clean sheet did not necessarily mean Cincinnati completely shut its opponent down.

Atlas may be eliminated, but Cincinnati cannot afford to become careless defensively while chasing goals and tournament position.

Atlas Playing for Pride After Consecutive Defeats

Atlas arrived in the United States hoping Hernán Crespo could quickly reshape the club.

Instead, the Rojinegros have endured a frustrating Leagues Cup.

Columbus defeated Atlas 3-1 in the tournament opener. Two first-half set-piece goals gave the Crew control before Brais Méndez extended the advantage shortly after halftime. Atlas’ only goal came when a cross from Rivaldo Lozano Valenzuela deflected into the Columbus net for an own goal.

Atlas then produced a considerably better performance against Charlotte.

The Mexican side controlled approximately 60 percent of possession and remained scoreless until the 78th minute, when Liel Abada capitalized on a turnover. Tyger Smalls added a second Charlotte goal during stoppage time.

The defeat officially eliminated Atlas.

Through two Leagues Cup matches, Atlas has scored only once while conceding five times, and its lone goal was credited as an own goal by Columbus.

That does not mean Cincinnati can overlook Atlas.

Camilo Vargas remains capable of keeping the Mexican club competitive. He made several important saves against Charlotte and prevented Cincinnati’s Eastern Conference rival from breaking through until late in the second half.

Ryan Mmaee provides a physical attacking option up front, while José Martín showed signs of becoming dangerous against Charlotte. Martín appeared to give Atlas the lead during the first half, only for VAR to overturn the goal for offside.

Luís Esteves also tested Charlotte goalkeeper Tyler Miller, while Atlas demonstrated that it can maintain possession for extended stretches.

The issue has been turning possession into quality chances.

Atlas produced only three shots on target against Columbus, and Cincinnati’s ability to counterattack could become particularly dangerous if Crespo pushes additional players forward searching for a consolation victory.

Pavel Bucha has quietly become one of Cincinnati’s most dangerous attacking players during Leagues Cup.

Atlas has struggled badly in the attacking third.
