What is Moomoo, and how do its prediction markets work?

Moomoo is best known as an online brokerage, but it now offers regulated prediction markets alongside its traditional investing tools. Instead of buying shares in a company, you trade event contracts tied to real-world outcomes. These contracts ask clear questions about future events, letting you decide which outcome you believe is most likely.

How event contracts work

Every market begins with a clearly worded question and predefined outcomes. Most contracts follow a simple Yes or No structure, although some markets include multiple possible outcomes instead of only two choices.

For example, you could predict whether France will defeat Spain, who will win the World Cup, or whether Bitcoin will finish above a specified price before settlement. Each contract includes detailed market rules explaining exactly how the outcome will be determined. Once the expiry time arrives, Moomoo settles contracts according to those published rules. Because the settlement criteria never change after launch, you always know what result you’re trading before committing any funds.

How prices reflect probability

Contract prices move throughout the trading period as participants buy and sell positions. Instead of representing a company’s value, as is the case with stocks, prices reflect the market’s collective expectation that an outcome will occur. If a Yes contract trades at $0.75, the market is effectively pricing that outcome with an implied probability of about 75%. A contract priced at $0.20 suggests traders believe the outcome is much less likely.

These probabilities constantly change as new information reaches the market. Economic reports, political developments, breaking sports news, injuries, company announcements, or cryptocurrency price swings can all influence buying activity.

Trading before and after markets settle

You don’t have to hold a contract until settlement. If prices move in your favor before expiry, you can sell your position and lock in profits early. Likewise, you can close losing positions before the market resolves if your outlook changes. For example, you can buy a Yes contract at $0.42 and sell it later at $0.61, which means you gain without waiting for settlement.

Liquidity also matters. Highly active markets generally have tighter bid and ask spreads, making it easier to enter and exit positions close to current market prices. For example, the closest buyer may be willing to pay $0.47, while you want $0.49. The more the people and money moving in a specific market, the tighter that $0.02 gap can be reduced. Wider spreads can increase trading costs because buyers and sellers are further apart on price. Once markets settle, every contract settles at either $1 for the correct outcome or $0 for the incorrect outcome.

How Moomoo predictions compare with investing

Prediction markets work differently from stock investing. When you invest in stocks, you own part of a company and hope its long-term value increases. With event contracts, you’re simply forecasting whether a specific outcome will happen before a set deadline.

Does Moomoo have a sign-up bonus for new traders?

The site’s current welcome offers apply to brokerage accounts. There isn’t a dedicated prediction market sign-up bonus at the time of writing. However, because you access prediction markets through your Moomoo account, these promotions can help offset your initial funding costs. For example, free stock rewards or referral bonus cash give you more capital available for event contract trading, all without needing a Moomoo promo code.

General welcome bonus

New eligible US customers can currently receive an 8.1% APY on uninvested cash for 60 days after activating their APY Booster. The offer combines a 3.35% Cash Sweep base rate with a 4.75% promotional booster on up to $20,000 of eligible cash. New customers can also get free fractional NVDA shares by making qualifying deposits.

You need to deposit $500 to receive $30 in NVDA stock, up to $100,000 for $1,000. You’ll need to maintain the required average account balance for between 60 and 180 days, depending on the promotion tier, before the rewards fully unlock.

Referral bonus

Moomoo also operates an extensive referral program. Existing customers can collect rewards when friends open a brokerage account through their referral link and complete a minimum $500 net deposit within 30 days. The first 12 successful referrals unlock puzzle rewards worth $100-$350 in cash or NVDA stock, depending on the stage completed. From the 13th referral onward, each qualifying referral gets an additional $100 in NVDA stock.

Yes. Moomoo Financial Inc. is a SEC-registered broker-dealer and FINRA member. Its prediction markets are offered through a partnership with Kalshi, a CFTC-regulated Designated Contract Market (DCM). This allows eligible US users to trade regulated event contracts directly inside the Moomoo app rather than through a separate platform.

You must be 18 or older to open an account. US residents need a valid Social Security Number (SSN), while eligible non-US tax residents must provide approved identity and address documents. Some prediction markets or contract categories may be unavailable in certain locations, so it’s best to verify before attempting to register.

How do payments work on Moomoo?

Before you can trade prediction markets, you’ll need to fund your Moomoo account. The platform supports several secure banking methods, while withdrawals are only available to verified bank accounts held in your name.

Funding your account

Moomoo supports ACH transfers, instant transfers, and wire transfers for US customers. ACH deposits are typically free and usually settle within one to four business days, while domestic wire transfers generally arrive within one to two business days. You’ll need to verify your identity before you can deposit funds.

Withdrawing your funds

You can withdraw money using ACH or wire transfer once your balance is available for withdrawal. Only settled cash can be withdrawn, so markets must settle first. ACH withdrawals are free and usually take three to five business days, while domestic wire transfers generally arrive within one to three business days and incur a $20 fee.

Limits and important things to know

Moomoo allows withdrawals of up to at least $20 and up to $500,000 per day. Deposits and withdrawals must come from bank accounts registered in your name, and the money you deposit may need to remain in your account for several business days before becoming eligible for withdrawal.

Trading on Moomoo step by step

Once you’ve opened and funded your account, placing your first prediction market trade is straightforward. Moomoo keeps everything within the same app, so you don’t need to switch between separate investing and prediction platforms.

Account setup and funding

Opening a Moomoo account only takes a minute or two. Before you can trade prediction markets, you’ll need to verify your identity and fund your account.

  1. Download the Moomoo app and create your account.

  2. Select your tax residency and complete the registration process.

  3. Verify your identity using your SSN (US residents) or passport and supporting documents (eligible non-US residents).

  4. Upload proof of address if required and submit your application for review.

  5. Once approved, fund your account using ACH, instant transfer, or wire transfer.

Most applications are reviewed within one to three business days, although Moomoo may request additional documentation to satisfy Know Your Customer (KYC) and anti-money laundering (AML) requirements. Enabling security features such as device verification and two-factor authentication helps protect your account before you begin trading.

Finding a market

After funding your account, search for Prediction Markets from the app’s navigation menu. Markets are organized into categories including Sports, Crypto, Politics, Culture, and Economics, making it easy to browse the events that interest you.

Selecting a contract opens a detailed market page showing the question being asked, the current Yes and No prices, trading activity, expiry time, and official settlement rules. Before placing a trade, I recommend carefully reading the market description.

Placing a trade

Once you’ve chosen a market, decide whether you believe the event will happen (Yes) or won’t happen (No). The current market prices indicate the implied probability, helping you compare your own opinion with the market’s consensus.

Next, enter the number of contracts you’d like to purchase and review the estimated cost before submitting your order. Moomoo displays your order details, including the selected position, price, total investment, and potential settlement value. After confirming the trade, your position appears in your portfolio, where you can monitor price movements, close the position before settlement, or hold it until the contract resolves.

Types of events you can predict on Moomoo

My Moomoo review had a lot of stops, as there are prediction markets for a broad range of real-world events. You can, therefore, trade on everything from major sporting fixtures to economic announcements.

Sports

Moomoo offers a wide variety of sports prediction markets across football, baseball, golf, motorsports, and tennis. During my review, I found contracts for France vs Spain, the 2026 World Cup winner, The Open Championship, Pro Baseball Champion, and National League Champion. I also even noticed the AFC Championship winner and Quaker State 400 NASCAR race markets. You can also trade season-long futures and outright championship markets.

Crypto

Moomoo currently groups cryptocurrency contracts into a dedicated Crypto category, making them easier to find than on some competing brokerages. My Interactive Brokers prediction markets review, for example, found crypto under Economics. During my review, I found markets asking whether Bitcoin would finish above $130,000, $135,000, $140,000, $145,000, and $150,000 by year-end. The platform also includes Ethereum price milestones, alongside contracts covering crypto ETF approvals, regulatory developments, and broader adoption trends. But unlike Interactive Brokers, which also has contracts on XRP, DOGE, and SOL markets, Moomoo currently focuses on Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Politics

The Politics section covers both US and international events. I found markets on the 2028 US Presidential Election, 2026 House Elections, and 2026 Senate Elections, alongside approval markets asking whether Donald Trump’s approval rating would exceed specific percentages. There are also contracts covering international affairs, including questions about a Russia-Ukraine ceasefire, Gaza, and developments involving China and Taiwan. This gives you opportunities to trade both election outcomes and major geopolitical events.

Culture

Moomoo’s Culture category extends well beyond entertainment awards. You’ll find contracts covering the Nobel Peace Prize, Apple’s iPhone 17 launch, TikTok’s availability in the US, and several technology-focused milestones. The platform also features markets on entertainment events, scientific developments, and major public announcements.

Economics

Economics is one of Moomoo’s largest categories, covering many of the announcements that move financial markets. Available contracts include Federal Reserve interest rate decisions, Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation, Non-Farm Payrolls, US unemployment, GDP growth, Treasury yields, and recession probabilities. I also found commodity-related contracts, including gold, oil, and other macroeconomic indicators.

Event categoryWhat users can predictExample contract outcome
SportsMatch winners, tournaments, player achievementsWill Spain win the World Cup?
CryptoBitcoin and Ethereum prices, ETF approvals, regulationWill Bitcoin finish above $150,000 by December 31?
PoliticsElections, legislation, approval ratingsWill a proposed bill become law this year?
CultureAwards, technology, science, public eventsWill a film win Best Picture at the Oscars?
EconomicsInflation, interest rates, GDP, unemploymentWill the Fed cut interest rates at its next meeting?

Should you download the Moomoo app?

If you plan to trade prediction markets regularly, downloading the Moomoo app offers clear advantages over using the desktop platform. While both provide access to the same markets, the app is designed for monitoring positions and reacting quickly as prices change throughout the day.

You can create watchlists to track your favorite prediction markets, monitor live price movements, and receive custom price alerts whenever contracts reach your chosen levels. The app also includes interactive charts with multiple technical indicators, drawing tools, custom overlays, and adjustable chart colors for more detailed analysis. The app also includes a built-in community, accessibility features, biometric login, and real-time push notifications, making it easy to manage positions wherever you are.

Useful Moomoo features that make trading easier

Moomoo offers far more than a list of prediction markets. During my review, I found several interface features designed to help you discover opportunities, monitor contracts, and react to changing market conditions more efficiently.

  • Trending Markets: This section has the most active contracts, helping you quickly identify where trading activity and interest are highest.
  • Market Movers: Shows the biggest price gainers and losers, making it easier to spot momentum or changing market sentiment.
  • Popular Topics: Groups markets around major themes such as Trump, Bitcoin, the Fed, AI, Oil, and Inflation, saving you time when researching specific events.
  • Time Filters: Browse markets ending Today, This Week, This Month, or This Year to match your preferred trading timeframe.
  • Search Function: Instantly locate specific events, teams, politicians, or economic indicators instead of browsing every category.
  • Watchlists: Save your favorite contracts in one place so you can monitor prices without searching for them repeatedly.
  • Price Alerts: Receive notifications when contracts reach your chosen price, helping you react without constantly watching the market.
  • Open Positions: View all your active trades from one screen, making it easier to monitor performance and manage risk.
  • Interactive Charts: Analyze price history using technical indicators, drawing tools, and multiple chart styles before entering a trade.

How Moomoo fees work

One of Moomoo’s biggest advantages is its pricing. Unlike the flat $0.02 fee per contract you’ll find in a Webull review, at the time of writing, Moomoo was advertising $0 commissions for verified US accounts trading prediction markets. That means you won’t pay a brokerage commission each time you buy or sell an event contract. You also don’t need to pay a subscription fee to access prediction markets or browse available contracts.

Instead, your trading cost comes from the price you pay for the contract. For example, buying a Yes contract at $0.42 means you risk $0.42 per contract. Although there are no commissions, you should still pay attention to the bid/ask spread. Entering or exiting less liquid markets can slightly affect your effective trading price even when commission-free trading is available.

The best support options at Moomoo

Moomoo offers several ways to get help, whether you have questions about your account, funding, or prediction market trading. The quickest option is the 24/7 live chat, which starts with an automated assistant before connecting you to a customer support representative if needed. During my Moomoo review, the agents responded professionally and provided clear answers to platform-related questions.

If your issue requires further investigation, you can contact support by email, with replies typically arriving within 24 hours. Phone support is also available during business hours for more complex account or verification issues. For self-service assistance, Moomoo has a comprehensive Help Center covering account opening, deposits, withdrawals, prediction markets, charts, watchlists, alerts, technical indicators, security, and trading tools. I also like that the platform provides detailed walkthroughs with screenshots for many common tasks, making it easy to solve simple problems without contacting support.

Moomoo is worth considering for prediction markets

Moomoo combines regulated prediction markets with the investing tools of a modern brokerage. That gives you one place to trade real-world events across sports, crypto, politics, economics, and culture. I found the platform easy to navigate, with transparent market rules, live probability pricing, powerful research features, and a feature-rich mobile app.

The $0 commission structure is another welcome advantage for eligible US traders. While the crypto prediction markets currently focus on Bitcoin and Ethereum, Moomoo has a wide enough market selection in other event categories. If you’re ready to get started, click the banners on this page to open a Moomoo account and begin trading regulated prediction markets.
