The College Football season kicked off with just a few games last week, and one was a massive shocker as Georgia Tech upset Florida State. Will an upset occur this weekend? It’s bound to happen at least once, and we will give you at least one upset in our top five games to bet.
These odds were updated at 6 am EST on 08/26/24, coming from Draft Kings.
One of the standout matches of Week 1 features two in-state rivals in Florida who could use a win at this pivotal juncture in the season. Billy Napier is in a must-win season at Florida, and their daunting schedule (by any measure imaginable) does nothing to help his cause. Given Florida’s demanding schedule in the SEC, if there aren’t early wins, then Napier could face being dismissed from his post. Although I may not think precisely the same of Coral Gables, the Miami Hurricanes have high hopes of competing for an ACC Championship and College Football Playoff spot after spending millions to acquire high-caliber talent this offseason. If head coach Mario Cristobal can overcome his game management struggles, this could be one of their finest seasons yet; for now, I won’t believe it until it happens.
I expect both offenses to find success throughout this matchup, with Cam Ward and Damien Martinez leading an exciting Miami attack that should find success throughout. Meanwhile, Florida should enjoy their moments; Florida’s offense is led by Graham Mertz, who made significant strides last season. Mertz quietly established himself as one of the premier quarterbacks in the SEC in 2023. I expect he’ll maintain this level of play against a Miami secondary that lost James Williams and Kamren Kinchens to the NFL draft. As long as Florida’s veteran signal-caller can quickly get the ball out and make quick decisions during the passing game, they should neutralize a Miami front seven that excels. I fully expect this match-up to come down to the wire, so in that case, I prefer taking Florida on the money line as an underdog in hopes of pulling an upset in Florida swamplands.

The over/under in this game is 54.5. This is an over bet to me. This is the season’s first game for both teams, and the offence will be slow to get started but expect plenty of scoring in the second half.
Both teams start slow but expect an explosion of offense in the second half, with the Gators pulling it out with a late field goal. Florida 34Β Miami 31
