This is a great inter-conference matchup between two very similar teams. The Hoosiers have been hot lately, and the Tigers struggled in their last game, losing to App State. This game may come to guard play, and as you will find out reading this article, there is great value to be found in this line.
The Auburn Tigers are searching for their sixth win of the season after falling to Baylor in their season opener and rebounding with five consecutive victories since, including victories over Notre Dame and Virginia Tech (74-57 win). Unfortunately, however, they were shocked this past weekend after they were marked eight-point favorites against Appalachian State 69-64 in a road defeat – although one out of their last three games has seen them cover the spread!
Johni Broome continues to impress, scoring 51 points over his last two games – including four double-doubles on the season – while recording an average of 18.3 PPG and 9.1 RPG. Aden Holloway, however, has seen his production decline, scoring double figures only once out of his last four contests and now averaging 10.6 PPG from an unimpressive 31% field shooting mark. Meanwhile, Chad Baker-Mazara has hit at least 50% of his field goals on all but two occasions – scoring 15 against Virginia Tech while recording an average 8.3 PPG and shooting 42% from all fields!
The Indiana Hoosiers are on a roll and looking to extend their winning streak early after their first-season loss against UConn. Since then, they’ve come back strong, beating Louisville, and Harvard and opening Big Ten play with an emphatic home win against Maryland before covering the spread in three straight road wins (Louisville/Harvard/Maryland and Michigan, respectively) over seven points each time out – and most recently covering in all three.
Kel’el Ware can reach impressive scoring totals on any given night; the sophomore center has scored 20 or more on three separate occasions this season – most recently against Harvard, where she totalled 28 points! Ware averages 17.1 PPG and 9.4 RPG. Malik Reneau has converted at least 50% of his field goal attempts in every game this year and averaged 15 points against Boston on Tuesday while also contributing 14.8 PPG on a 60% field goal conversion mark from his field goals average.
Auburn Tigers have now lost two games this season – the first against Baylor, which wasn’t unexpected, and Appalachian State, which was an upset loss on the road in their previous game.
Auburn is struggling from deep, shooting 29.6% from three-point range. Indiana’s defense is superb – Maryland was limited to 35% shooting two games ago, while Michigan could only manage 24% from long range against Indiana on Tuesday. Hoosiers Cover and win. Indiana 70 Auburn 65
