Indiana recorded a huge home win against Maryland to open their conference campaign. At the same time, Michigan lost to Oregon on Saturday; Indiana won both meetings between these teams last year. A tremendous frontline leads Indiana, while the Wolverines are a guard-driven team. These teams are as close to exact opposites in playing style as any two teams can be.
The Michigan Wolverines have returned home after playing four straight neutral courts away games and are struggling, losing four of their last five games. They dropped an ugly 73-57 loss at Texas Tech last weekend before falling on an overtime road loss against Oregon on Saturday at 2.5-point underdogs, covering only once during that span of games.
Dug McDaniel has had an outstanding season. The sophomore guard scored 20 points against Stanford and 33 in Saturday’s loss, averaging 20.2 PPG and 5.3 APG this year. Olivier Nkamhoua has scored at least 15 in four of his last five contests for an average of 16.9 PPG on 57% field shooting with 7 RPG. Terrance Williams II also boasts double-digit scores two times since Jan 1 averaging 10.9 PPG and 4.8 RPG on average this year.
The Indiana Hoosiers are on a three-game winning streak after defeating Louisville and Harvard earlier in the month; most recently they beat Maryland at home last Friday to open Big Ten play.
Kel’El Ware has enjoyed an outstanding year. The sophomore center has already recorded 20-point efforts three times this season – including 28 against Harvard! – while also posting an average of 17.7 PPG and 9.6 RPG. Malik Raneau has connected on 50% or more field goals each game this season for 14.7 PPG on 61% shooting. Guard play has been an issue for the Hoosiers, and they will need to step up in the backcourt with Gane Cupps and Trey Galloway to defend the Michigan three-point shooting attack. Look for CJ Gunn to come off the bench to provide a spark.
This line is a joke, the Indiana Hooisres have played well as of late and the Michigan Wolverines have struggled. The Hoosiers are the better coached team, and the Hoosier frontcourt should dominate in this one. Nichigan will have to hit at least ten three-point shots to win this game, and they are capable of doing that. Take the Hoosiers +7,5. Indiana 79 Michigan 73.
