How do sweepstakes casinos work?
Sweepstakes casinos are social gaming sites where you can play freemium casino-style games using virtual currencies instead of traditional currencies. These sites operate under US sweepstakes laws and are legal in most US states, although their operations are subject to local legislation.
Due to the US sweepstakes laws that guide their operations, they run on a free-to-play mode and award their players virtual currencies through bonuses and promotions, so you can use their products for free. Based on our checks, social media bonuses are one of the top offers available at sweepstakes sites. But before we get into the rest of this guide, let’s quickly look at how virtual currencies work at sweepstakes sites.
Most of the virtual currencies you’d find at sweepstakes sites take the form of Gold Coins (GC) or Sweeps Coins (SC). Some sweepstakes may have different names for their virtual currencies, but they all operate under the same principle.
GC are strictly used for gameplay at sweepstakes casinos and can’t be redeemed for alternative prizes. You’ll be awarded GC through bonuses, promotions, or gameplay. Although sweepstakes sites run a free-to-play model, they also support optional GC pack purchases, and you can get GC from those.
On the flip side, SC can be redeemed for alternative prizes, but they can’t be purchased. Sweepstakes brands offer their players SC through bonuses, promotions, and gameplay.
Sweepstakes casinos are all about offering their players a fun and free gaming experience. Lately, we noticed that these sites are now all in on creating online social communities of players. Guess what the best way to do this is? Social media.
It’s common to find leading sweepstakes brands having social media pages and being active on them. To drive engagement and create a community for their players, these brands now host
sweepstakes contests
on their social media pages.
Depending on the site, you might find these free-to-enter competitions on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), Telegram, Instagram, YouTube, or Discord, among others. Once you enter these promotions, you’ll get a shot at scoring GC, SC, or other rewards by participating in them. If you meet the promotion’s T&Cs and are eligible to claim your rewards, the site then posts your name among a list of other players who will be getting rewards from its promotions.
Besides creating a thriving community of its players and increasing engagement, sweepstakes sites also host social media promos to increase their social proof. However, these promos are mostly time-limited and are often available for a specific period.

Having hopped on multiple social media promotions hosted by sweepstakes casinos, we’ll describe some of the top promotions that you’ll find at these sites:
We’d rate these contests as the most common social media promotion that’s hosted by sweepstakes brands. You’ll be required to answer mostly trivia questions about the site’s game(s) or on any other topic. The questions are often easy to answer, and you might have to choose the correct answer from a number of options or input it in a provided space. We’ve found some really interesting quiz contests at Stake.us.
👍 “Like” or “follow” promos
With this promotion, you don’t have to do much to participate and claim your rewards. You’d either be required to follow the site’s official social media pages or like specific posts. CrownCoins and SpinQuest each hosted one of these promos some months back.
To qualify for the rewards that come with these promotions, all you’d have to do is retweet or reshare a specific post using a designated hashtag. Real Prize currently offers one of these offers. Stake.us is another site that uses this kind of promo a lot.
With this promotion, all you’d have to do is log in to the site when the bonus drops are available to claim yours. Stake.us has a Telegram channel dedicated to this kind of promo, and we once saw one on LoneStar.
With these contests, you’d have to tag your friends in a designated social media post on the site. Based on this activity, you could enter a prize draw and bag some rewards. We once found one of these offers on Real Prize’s Facebook page.
💬 Comments-focused promos
As the name suggests, participation in this type of promotion requires you to comment on the social media page where the promotion is hosted. You won’t need to make long-winded treatises here. Just make simple comments that either concisely answer questions or share your opinions on whatever topic the promotion is about. We also found a promo like this at LoneStar.
To claim rewards from this promo, you’ll try to guess one of the site’s games or words using clues that the site offers. You might find an example of this promo on one of Real Prize’s social media pages. LoneStar and Stake.us also use this format a lot for their promos.
Before we describe our top picks, here’s a quick look at the active promos on their socials at the time of writing this guide:

You already know how social media promotions work, the available types, and our recommended sites for claiming them, among other things. Up next are tips on how to participate in these promotions.
1. Sign up at a reputable sweepstakes casino
It’s best to only claim social media bonuses at sweepstakes casinos with a reputation to protect. We’ve recommended Stake.us, CrownCoins Casino, SpinQuest, Real Prize, and LoneStar Casino as the best sites to use social media promotions. All our recommended sites passed our tests of their social media presence, licensing, customer support, welcome bonuses, and ease of use.
2. Follow your preferred site on its official social media pages
Most social media promotions are time-limited offers and are only available for a specific period. To hop on available social media promotions, you’d have to be a member of the site’s social media community. So, the next step after signing up to your preferred sweepstakes site is to follow the site on its verified social media pages.
You might also want to turn on your notifications. That way, you’ll be in the know when the promotions are available and can participate as a member of the site’s social media community. Signing up to our recommended sites is easy, and you won’t have to jump through hoops to follow them on their socials.
3. Get in on the action ASAP
We suggest that you hop on available promotions as soon as you can. Remember that they’re time-specific and might lapse before you know it. However, before participating, take the time to read the T&Cs of the promotion. That’s where you’ll get important info on details such as your eligibility, its validity period, and rules of participation, among other things. For instance, if you want to claim the Stake.us daily drops, note the total drop limits and the playthrough requirements.
4. Claim your rewards
If you’ve bagged any rewards from participation in the social media promotions, you’ll receive notifications, and your username will be displayed on a list on the site’s social media page. You may then be required to verify your identity before you receive your rewards. All five of our top picks offer GC and SC, and you can redeem your SC for real prizes after meeting site-specific requirements.
There are two sides to participating in social media promotions hosted by sweepstakes brands that we’d like you to consider. Here they are:
