Are online casinos available in Illinois
Despite the interest in real-money online casinos in Illinois, they are not currently legal in the state. This lack of state licensing and regulatory framework means residents cannot legally access online casino sites from within the state.
That said, the current outlook for the future does show some signs of progress. For example, in early 2025, bills such as Senate Bill 1963 and House Bill 3080 were introduced to create an ‘Internet Gaming Act’ to legalise online casinos in Illinois.
The state’s Attorney General even publicly stated that online casino gaming will be legalized “at some point” in Illinois, so maybe in the future I can share my best online casino Illinois recommendations with you.
But for now the Illinois Gaming Board (IGB), who continues to oversee video gaming terminals, retail casinos and sports wagering, has not approved any framework for Illinois online casinos yet.

Enjoy your favorite games at
Illinois sweepstake casinos
Although you may be disappointed that real-money online casinos aren’t available in IL, and I can’t share the best Illinois online casinos with you – I do have some good news. Sweepstakes casinos are a good (and legal) alternative if you want to play casino-style games online.
They are legal as they don’t require you to wager actual money, and instead operate under sweepstakes laws that allow these sites to provide free-to-play games.
Sweepstakes casinos work using two virtual currencies instead of real money:
- Gold Coins (GC): Used purely for fun and entertainment, they have no real-world value. You collect Gold Coins for free via bonuses and promos, and you have the option to purchase more if you wish, although this is completely optional. GC cannot be redeemed for prizes.
- Sweepstakes Coins (SC): A promotional currency that can be used to play games in sweepstakes mode. They also have no real-world value, but once playthrough requirements are met, they can be redeemed for real prizes such as gift cards or cash prizes. You cannot purchase SC, and they are always given out for free via bonuses and promos.
As virtual currencies take the place of real gaming chips at IL sweeps casinos, you don’t have to risk any actual cash as you play, making sweepstakes sites the perfect place to try out new games or simply enjoy playing their casino games on a casual basis.

LoneStar Casino is a new sweepstakes casino I was excited to try, not only because it’s available in Illinois, but it’s also the sister site to RealPrize (which I’ll discuss shortly). When you join up, you can claim a generous welcome bonus of 100,000 Gold Coins and 2 Sweeps Coins. If you decide to make an optional first GC purchase, you can unlock up to 500,000 Gold Coins, 105 FREE Sweeps Coins, and 1,000 VIP Points.

The site is smooth to operate, making it easy to collect free GC and SC daily through login rewards (up to 5,000 Gold Coins and 0.3 Sweeps Coins), giveaways, and the VIP program. LoneStar is a top pick if you’re looking for a fresh sweeps casino.
Get up to 500K Gold Coins + 105 FREE SC + 1000 VIP points
RealPrize – Best Illinois sweeps casino for VIP perks
Realprize: Pros & Cons
- Dedicated app
- Generous welcome bonus
- Excellent seven-tier VIP program
- Not available in all US states
RealPrize is an established sweepstakes casino in Illinois, and with its mix of games, bonuses, and arguably one of the best loyalty programs around, it’s definitely worth a go. I was happy to see the free welcome bonus of 100,000 Gold Coins and 2 Sweeps Coins is still available, just for signing up. Like LoneStar, if you decide to make an optional first Gold Coin purchase, you can unlock 625,000 Gold Coins, up to 125 FREE Sweeps Coins, and 1,250 VIP Points – which is quite a boost to the virtual balance if you have the budget.
RealPrize packs 700+ games from the likes of NetEnt, EvoPlay, Yggdrasil, and Relax Gaming. I found top slots, crash games, Plinko, live dealer titles, and table games when I browsed the game library, as well as Texas Hold’em Poker – one of my favorites!
Where RealPrize really stands out though is its tiered VIP program. You’re automatically enrolled when you sign up, and you can work your way up through the levels and collect tailored bonuses and special perks. If you’re based in IL, RealPrize is easily one of my top picks this year.
625K Golden Coins + Up to 125 SC FREE + 1250 VIP Points
Stake.us – Play Stake Originals in IL
Stake.us: Pros & Cons
- 3,000+ games including exclusive Stake Originals
- Daily login bonus available
- Social media bonus drops and Telegram drop codes
- Low minimum requirement for redemptions
- Not available in every U.S state
Stake.us is a well known name in the sweeps casino world, and the exclusive welcome bonus of 25 Stake Cash, 560,000 Gold Coins, and 3.5% rakeback gives you plenty of virtual currency to enjoy the thousands of games here.
The Stake Originals are a fan favorite too, and with games like Plinko, Crash, Mines, and Keno to try out, I really recommend this section of the site. If you’d prefer to play something else though, live dealer games, slots and table games are aplenty.
I really like the Stake.us site, as it’s very intuitive and everything is laid out clearly on the homepage. You’ve even got a live chat with other players constantly running on the page, which I think is a nice social feature. Daily login rewards, social media giveaways, weekly races, and leaderboard contests are just a few of the ways you can keep your virtual balance afloat too.
You can even purchase optional GC packages and redeem SC prizes using crypto. All this and more makes Stake.us feel quite premium compared to most US social casinos.
25 SC and 250K GC signup bonus
High 5 Casino – Best for exclusive High 5 Games
25 SC and 250K GC signup bonus
Jackpota – Best for live dealer games
Jackpota: Pros & Cons
- New games every week
- 24/7 customer support
- Generous welcome deal
- Daily reload bonus
- Not availablen all US states
Although it’s still fairly new, Jackpota has made a name for itself in Illinois, thanks to its intuitive site design and variety of games. When you sign-up, you’ll be awarded 7,500 Gold Coins and 2.5 Sweeps Coins free as part of the welcome bonus. Daily login rewards of 1,500 GC and 0.2 SC follow, and the optional first purchase deal of 80,000 GC, 40 free SC, and 75 Free SC Spins is a good option if you plan to spend.
Now, Jackpota is a great site to play at if you enjoy live dealer games like Blackjack, Roulette, Baccarat, and Sic Bo. The games load quickly and I experienced no lag – crucial when you’re at the live dealer table. Slots are another highlight, and with 1,500+ games to explore, the site is packing a lot of gameplay!
Ongoing promos are frequent too. I spotted social media giveaways and a refer-a-friend bonus with up to 100 SC available per referral. You can access all the games and promos on your mobile too, without the need for a dedicated app. This is a solid sweeps site, and well worth your time.
100% More Coins: 80,000 GC + 40 FREE SC + 75 Free SC Spins
How to get the most out of social casinos in Illinois
Sure, you can just sign-up to a sweepstakes casino in Illinois and start playing with the welcome bonus, but there are a few strategic ways I recommend that will help maximize your rewards.
Here are my expert tips to help you get the most out of your time playing at the best social casinos in IL:
Most sweeps casinos have a whole host of bonuses available for players, even after you’ve claimed the welcome bonus. Be sure to look out for daily login rewards, tournaments, contests, and mail-in requests, as these are great ways to get hold of free Gold Coins and Sweepstakes Coins.
💡 Extra tip: Make it a habit to check the promotions section of the site regularly, as this is the most likely place you’ll find new bonuses.
⭐️ Play with Gold Coins first
Gold Coins are for entertainment only and readily available. They are a great choice when you want to check out a new game and get familiar with the mechanics and rules. As Sweepstakes Coins can potentially be redeemed for prizes once playthrough is met, you’ll want to use these for slots or games with the highest RTP to maximize your chances of winning. It’s important to remember that these are games of chance though – so no guaranteed wins.
👑 Join VIP loyalty programs
Some of the top brands in my list like RealPrize, High 5 Casino and Stake.us reward players for engaging on the site and staying active. This is usually through loyalty programs that are tiered, and as you work your way through the tiers you’ll unlock cool benefits and perks like special bonuses and access to exclusive content.
Almost every sweeps casino has a referral program which rewards you for introducing your friends to the site. You’ll have a unique referral code, and if your friend signs up with the code and makes a GC purchase, you could claim a bunch of free GC and SC SC.
📢 Follow the sweeps casino social media channels
I find a lot of the top sweeps casinos have an active presence on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and X, and run regular giveaways for followers. Turn on notifications so you won’t miss out of any exclusive bonus drops, which are usually time limited.
How to start with Illinois sweeps casinos
Getting started at one of the best IL sweepstakes casinos is easy, and takes just a couple of minutes. Follow my quick steps below to join and claim your free welcome bonus:
-
Choose a sweeps casino: Click one of the brand’s banners I recommend on this page. This will take you directly to the site to sign-up and ensures you get access to the best welcome bonus.
-
Create your account: Enter your name, email, date of birth, telephone number, and create a secure password. I find that some sites will let you register instantly using Google, Apple, or Facebook too.
-
Enter a promo code (if required): If the sweeps casino requires a promo code on sign-up to grab the welcome deal, apply it now by entering it in the relevant section.
-
Verify your account: Check your inbox for a verification link or phone for a text message, and follow the instructions.
-
Complete KYC: Know Your Customer is a strict rule that sweepstakes casinos require from players. You’ll need to upload a Government photo ID and proof of address. Doing this now can save time, especially when it comes to prize redemption.
-
Claim your welcome bonus: Your free Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins will be added to your account, and you can check your balance in your account settings.
-
Enjoy the games: Use Gold Coins to explore games, and save Sweeps Coins for chances to redeem prizes.
Best Illinois sweeps casino apps
Sweeps casino mobile apps give you the convenience to play your favorite games wherever you are. Not all sites have a dedicated app, but those that do ideally offer speedy loading time, clear navigation, and access to everything you would find on the desktop, including the games and ongoing bonuses.
Below are my top Illinois casino apps for sweepstakes players:
| 🎰 Sweepstakes Casino | 🎁 Welcome Bonus | 📱 App Store Rating | ▶️ Google Play Store Rating | 🎮 Approx. Number of Mobile Games |
| High 5 Casino | 400 Game Coins + 3 Sweeps Coins + 300 Diamonds | ⭐️ 4.6/5
| ⭐️ 3.9/5 | 1,700+ |

Bonuses available at Illinois casinos
It’s common for Illinois social casinos to target new customers with sign-up bonuses, but remember that any promotion you see advertised on a sweeps site will be serving up virtual currency instead of cash.
The good news is that most sweepstakes casinos in Illinois offer bonuses and rewards just like
online casinos in Indiana. So, whichever you choose, you’ll most likely be splitting hairs between the quantity of free “Gold Coins” and “Sweeps Coins” you receive.
With that in mind, let me show you some of the core bonuses typically available at sweepstakes casinos in Illinois…
Welcome bonuses are often the biggest and best promos you can expect at any of the
top-rated sweepstakes casinos
in Illinois, and this makes sense when you consider that brands rely on them to bring new customers on board. You’ll often receive several thousand free Gold Coins when joining an IL sweeps casino, along with 2-5 free bonus Sweeps Coins on average.
You can claim a welcome bonus by joining a sweepstakes casino listed on this page. As long as you don’t already hold an account at the site, you are of legal age to play, and located in a legal state like Illinois, you should be able to register and reap the rewards. Always check the terms and conditions though, as these can vary from site to site.
To incentivize you to keep coming back, most brands offer daily rewards to get you to access your account every day. Daily login bonuses are among the most reliable bonuses for returning members, gifting you a nice sum of free bonus GC and SC whenever you access your account every 24 hours.
You’ll typically receive anywhere between 1,000-10,000 GC and 0.5-2 SC free each day you login, although the amount will vary depending on the site. You can usually claim this bonus by heading to your account when you login to the site.
If you know a friend or relative who would enjoy a sweeps casino as much as you, you can use a brand’s referral bonus to invite them on board and enjoy free bonus GC and SC when they sign up and make a qualifying GC purchase.
Some sweeps casinos offer as much as 200,000 GC and 100 SC when you successfully refer a friend. All you need to do is locate your unique referral code in the referral section of your account and send this code to your friends. If they register with the code and make a GC purchase, you could see a nice bonus heading your way!
Lots of sweepstakes casinos in Illinois have fully-fledged VIP rewards programs, giving you the chance to claim rewards when you collect loyalty points and rise up the levels.
A few examples of the types of rewards you could see in a VIP program are monthly bonuses, exclusive VIP games, VIP hosts and account managers, special reload bonuses, and birthday gifts.
📢 Social media giveaways and contests
Make sure you’re following your favorite IL sweeps casinos on social media, as this is one of the best ways to keep abreast of emerging contests, giveaways, and tournaments.
You could get free GC and SC just by liking and sharing a post, or you may have to enter a contest to be in with a chance to win some virtual currency.
That’s not an exhaustive list of promotions available at sweeps casinos in IL, but it should give you an idea of where free Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins come from as a new or returning player.
Are there any no-deposit casino bonuses in Illinois?
No-deposit promotions are among the most-searched-for types of casino bonuses in the USA. And that’s understandable given their perceived benefits, including the fact that they essentially let you enjoy a casino’s games and offerings for free.
However, there’s a big but coming here: no-deposit promotions are not available on IL sweeps casinos. That’s because these sites don’t support deposits, and the games are available to play for free.
Instead, you can claim
no-purchase offers at sweepstakes casinos
in Illinois – specifically the types of bonuses I showcased earlier. All these types of promos are free to claim with no purchase or deposit required.
What games are available in Illinois sweepstakes casinos?
While you cannot play on online slots for real money in Illinois, at sweepstakes casinos you have access to a full range of casino-style games, ranging from slots to live dealer tables. Below I’ve put together a list of the most popular games you’ll likely encounter, how they work, and where to play them. Let’s take a look:
Slots are the most popular and common game type across sweeps casinos, and you have a lot to choose from. A couple of varieties include classic reels, video slots, Megaways, jackpot games, Hold and Win, and more.
Why they’re popular: Easy to understand, wide range of themes, decent win multipliers, fun bonus rounds, complete chance so no need for strategies or skills.
| 🎮 Game | ⭐️ Provider | 🎰 Where to play |
| Triple Double Da Vinci Diamonds | High 5 Games | High 5 Casino |
| Le Cowboy | Hacksaw Gaming | Stake.us |
| Wolf Saga | 3 Oaks Gaming | Jackpota |
| Mooncake Riches: Hold and Win | Kalamba | RealPrize |
| Fire and Roses Joker | Triple Edge Studios | LoneStar |
Table games are another option if you want a strategy-type game, with Blackjack a firm favorite. Sweeps casinos may offer RNG versions of Blackjack, as well as different variants like Gravity Blackjack and 7 Seats Blackjack.
Why it’s popular: Lower volatility than many slots, strategic design appeals to experienced players.
| 🎮 Game | ⭐️ Provider | 🎰 Where to play |
| Classic Blackjack | NetGaming | Rich Sweeps |
| Stake Blackjack | Stake Original | Stake.us |
| Gravity Blackjack | ICONIC21 | MegaBonanza |
| Multihand Blackjack | Gaming Corps | Jackpota |
Roulette is a staple table game at sweeps casinos, often available in multiple styles (American, European, auto-roulette, etc.). It’s a simple game and fun to play.
Why it’s popular: Simple rules, visible odds, quick rounds, and familiar format for many players.
| 🎮 Game | ⭐️ Provider | 🎰 Where to play |
| Classic Roulette | Evolution | Stake.us |
| Roulette | ICONIC21 | RealPrize |
| American Roulette | Evoplay | Jackpota |
| European Roulette | NetGaming | Rich Sweeps |
Some of the best sweepstakes casinos I play at offer live dealer games. These really add an authentic feel to the site as you are playing with human dealers in real-time, making it immersive and interactive. Stake.us is easily the best casino for live dealers, but we also found that
Megabonanza is an excellent sweeps casino
for players who like live blackjack or roulette.
Why they’re popular: Mimics traditional casino dealer games, interactive, social.
Where to play: Stake.us, MegaBonanza, Jackpota, RealPrize
Beyond the slots and table games many sweepstakes casinos offer specialty games such as bingo. This is a classic game and usually comes with many different themes and features.
Why they’re popular: Variety, lower stakes, more relaxed play style, appeal to casual players.
Where to play: Pulszbingo, RealPrize
Now I love to see something a little different at a sweeps casino, and games like scratch cards, instant wins, Plinko, and crash games add a fresh element to gameplay.
Why they’re popular: Adds variety, fun themes, quick games.
Where to play: Stake.us offers “Stake Originals” like Crash, Mines, Plinko, Dragon Tower.
Are online casinos legal in Illinois?
Much like
Iowa online casinos, real money online casinos are yet to be legalized in IL. Despite the growing interest to legalize online casinos, and even multiple discussions over legislation in recent years, the state has not passed a bill to allow casino online gambling in Illinois. This has meant in recent years, an influx of Illinois sweepstakes casinos have appeared, meaning Illinoisians can play casino-style game using virtual currency instead of cash.
Here are a few legislative highlights in Prairie State gambling history:
- 1920s
– Horse race betting is legalized.
- 1974
– Illinois rolls out the first US state lottery.
- 1990
– The Riverboat Gambling Act becomes law, enabling riverboat casinos to operate along IL waterways.
- 2009
– The Video Gaming Act allows for Video Gaming Terminals (VGTs) to be used in liquor-licensed establishments.
- 2019
– The Illinois Gambling Act theoretically legalizes online betting in IL, though the issue of online casino-related gambling is never directly addressed.
- 2022
– While online video slots and lottery games are available, online casinos remain prohibited.
- 2023–present
– Multiple bills are introduced to legalize online casinos, including HB2239 and later HB2238. None of these have so far advanced past committee due to various concerns.
As you can see, currently there’s no regulation or licensing available for Illinois online casinos, which is why residents are increasingly seeking out alternatives like sweeps casino sites.
Can you play at offshore casinos in Illinois?
I don’t recommend seeking offshore casinos in Illinois for several reasons. Primarily, such sites may not be safe and secure, particularly if you’re accessing them via a VPN. There’s also no telling how reliable an offshore site will be, and whether it will honor deposits/withdrawals from players in the USA.
It’s much better to opt for a sweepstakes casino that is legally permitted to operate in the Prairie State. Not only will this ensure that your data, info, and payment information are kept safe, but it will also give you access to casino-style games for free and the potential to redeem real prizes.
Land-based casinos in Illinois: What’s available?
While real-money online gambling in Illinois remains off-limits in the Prairie State, there are a handful of land-based alternatives you might like to try if you’re looking for an authentic Vegas-style experience. Indeed, at my last count, there were well over a dozen brick-and-mortar casino joints in Illinois, but here’s a shortlist of three of my absolute favorites…
| Illinois land-based casinos | Address | Number of slots | Number of tables |
| Harrah’s Joliet Hotel & Casino | 151 N Joliet St, Joliet, IL 60432 | 500+ | 20 |
| Par-A-Dice Hotel Casino | 21 Blackjack Blvd, East Peoria, IL 61611 | 500+ | 18 |
| Rivers Casino Des Plaines | 3000 S River Rd, Des Plaines, IL 60018 | 1,500+ | 25 |
Online Casinos in Other US States
Illinois is home to top social and sweepstakes casinos
I’ve established that the Prairie State isn’t going to provide you with legal real money online casino action. But, hopefully, I’ve managed to highlight the many perks of playing at a social and sweepstakes casino instead.
As discussed, social and sweepstakes casinos are considered legal in Illinois because they fall into a different bracket to real money online gambling. They allow all players the option to play for fun or redeem cash prizes ,and players never need to make a purchase to play.
I feel that the combination of the exclusive bonus, over 2,000 casino-style titles and daily rewards are reason enough to cement Stake.us as one of the top alternative to Illinois online casino gambling. However, I’ve also provided plenty of additional social and sweepstakes casino reviews to help you make your own mind up.
