Florida will look to even up the Eastern Conference Finals after suffering a 5-4 loss Sunday despite showing impressive playing abilities that should have led them to a better outcome.
On paper, Florida appears to be controlling this series after they opened up the series with a 3-0 victory in Game 1. However, the NHL’s premier regular-season team has earned two overtime victories, giving them a slight edge in this best-of-seven contest.
As this is their fourth game in seven nights, goalies may become worn down and open up more, allowing both offenses to score more than we saw during Game 1 and 2 at Madison Square Garden.
These odds were updated at 6 am EST on 05/28/24, coming from Draft Kings.
Luck plays a big part in success, and the Rangers received more than their share in Game 3. To their credit, even while being outshot 37-23 and controlling only 30.81% of expected goals at 5-on-5, the only time the Blueshirts trailed in the game was for less than five minutes in the first period.
After being outplayed significantly in the third period, they managed to keep it close until Alex Wennberg managed to beat Sergei Bobrovsky for his inaugural goal of these playoffs.
The Rangers also faltered badly on special teams during Game 3, giving up two power-play goals to Florida while going 0-for-3 themselves and being outscored 3-to-2 by Florida on man advantage play. Their man advantage had been so reliable during the regular season and the first two rounds of playoff play, but it has gone scoreless against Florida so far.
With their Game 1 win followed by two close overtime defeats, the Panthers are in an unexpected hole. Controlling 55.35% of expected goals at 5-on-5 through three games while their special teams have excelled.
The Panthers have also been healthy, fielding the same lineup throughout the series so far and scoring on just 5.41% of 5-on-5 shots at 5-on-5 – something which is uncharacteristically low based on probabilities; though as it progresses, they should experience better puck luck.
Bobrovsky has saved an average of 1.14 goals above expectation in all situations through his first three games – only slightly behind Shesterkin’s 1.96 mark.
But after Bobrovsky only allowed two goals or less in six of seven previous matches, the Panthers could have used another stopper Sunday after they only allowed 23 shots over 64:47 of game action. Check out the best betting site for betting on the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Over/Under is 5.5 in this game. This is tricky over/under, but I would lean towards the Over. This is the teams fourth game in seven days and they both look like they are starting to wear down, and that will lead to a higher scoring game.
The Panthers dominated the season series, but all of the games were razor-close, and all the games have been razor-close, but the Rangers have won the last two games. Check out our guide to betting on the NHL Playoffs.
I look for a tight defensive battle that will be decided late in the game. I like the Panthers to pull away late. Panthers 5 Rangers 3
