This is a matchup of two teams that look headed in opposite directions. The Vikings were upset at home by Tampa Bay, while the Eagles squeaked by the Patriots.
Offensively, the Eagles managed to gain only 251 yards during this game – including just 154 through the air and 97 on the ground against New England’s formidable defense. Hurts completed 22-of-33 throws for just 170 yards with no touchdown and was also sacked three times; on nine attempts Hurts ran for just 37 yards; Kenneth Gainwell led all carriers with 14 for 54 yards, while newcomer D’Andre Swift had only one carry of three yards; A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith both caught seven passes each in this contest but were limited to 79 and 47 respectively before scoring the win.
On defense, the Eagles forced two turnovers during this game. Cornerback Darius Slay scored on an interception return in the first quarter to give them an early advantage. Overall, their defense had two sacks, five tackles for loss and pressured quarterback Tom Brady ten times while recording seven quarterback hits; New England managed 382 total yards but only 76 on the ground!
The Eagles will have to adapt quickly this season as new coordinators take over on both sides of the ball, which was evidenced in week one with only 18 points scored from their offense and nearly 400 total yards allowed defensively. In 2022, the Eagles led all NFL football teams in total defense with the league’s best secondary and deepest group of defensive linemen. The Eagles finished 2022 as one of the top four defenses against running plays, and that proved true on Sunday as New England failed to crack 100 yards rushing. Though ranked ninth against passing offenses last season, they struggled mightily against New England’s one of the worst passing attacks.
For the second straight season, the Vikings head to Philadelphia for a prime-time game in week two of their season. Last time, the team entered Philadelphia after an emphatic home win against the Green Bay Packers; this season, they travel after suffering a disappointing 20-17 home loss against Tampa Bay Bucs, which made matters all the more troubling. last year they went 11-0 in one-score games but this year things look to be changing!
Offensively, the Vikings relied heavily on their passing game. Running for only 41 yards over 17 carries yielded only an unimpressive 2.4 yards per carry average; throwing for 344 yards with quarterback Kirk Cousins going 33-of-44 for 344 yards and two touchdowns while also getting picked off once; All-Pro wideout Justin Jefferson made nine catches for 150 yards, while T.J. Hockenson who just signed long-term deal made eight receptions for 35 yards in losing effort; overall they committed three turnovers — two from Cousins who also fumbled twice and threw an interception – while all-Pro wideout Justin Jefferson made nine receptions of 150 yards total before losing effort ended up happening; both All-Pro wideout Justin Jefferson had nine receptions of 150 yards while T.J. Hockenson made eight receptions totalling for 35 yards receiving plays totalling eight catches.
On defense, the Vikings allowed only 242 total yards – including just 168 through the air – while holding Tampa Bay to only nine first downs during this matchup. While their defense created no turnovers or forced any turnovers on this day, only recording one sack and two tackles for loss against their subpar offense; Camryn Bynum led all Viking players with 10 tackles in this contest.
This is simple, the eagles are a much better team than the Vikings.
