Both teams are in the thick of the playoff hunt and doing it in different ways. the Vikings are doing it with a stout defense, and the Bengals are doing it with a red-hot offense. Something will have to give in this battle between playoff contenders.
On their home field, the Bengals appeared doomed after Jake Browning made a subpar debut (following Joe Burrow’s season-ending wrist injury) against the Steelers and ultimately lost, sending them down to a 5-6 record. But since then, he has made two outstanding starts against the Jaguars and the Colts respectively, winning both games while scoring 34 points total.
The Bengals’ defense has improved as of late, but the thing that has put the Bengals over the top is the running back tandem of Joe Mixon and Chase Brown. The two destroyed the Colts’ defense last Sunday.
Only recently did it seem as though the Browns made an error by trading away Josh Dobbs – an outstanding NASA aerospace engineer and quarterback/brilliant NASA aerospace engineer – to the Cardinals, then later selling him off to the Vikings following Kirk Cousins’ injury and becoming their starter instead.
Now, it seems the Vikings wish to send Dobbs into deep space. He was pulled from one of the lowest-scoring NFL games since 2014 in Week 14, a 3-0 road win against the Raiders in Las Vegas that also marked one of the lowest-scoring dome games ever played in NFL history.
Dobbs’ miserable 10-of-23 performance for 63 yards (and five sacks) through three quarters wasn’t the worst part of his performance. That distinction belongs to one play when Dobbs forced star receiver Justin Jefferson into taking an abusive hit from one of his poorly thrown balls, which ultimately saw him taken out for the game and taken to hospital with a chest injury that may keep him out for this week’s contest.
The Vikings are on their fourth different quarterback, but the defense has played well this season. The issue is most of their damage has been against poor offenses. The Bengals backup quarterback Jake Browning has been on fire, and he has great weapons. I don’t see the Vikings being able to score enough points to keep up in this one. Bengals 27Β Vikings 13
