This is a battle between two of the worst teams in the NFL. The Bears have played better as of late, with Tyson Bagent playing solid in place of the injured Justin Fields. The Panthers have shown some improvement, but neither of these teams has the talent to be good. Both teams lack explosive offensive weapons.
The Bears and Saints went into the fourth quarter tied at 17, with the Bears outgaining the Saints 368-301. The Bears turned the ball over five times during the game including three interceptions from Tyson Bagent. In contrast, the Saints did not commit one single turnover, which ultimately proved decisive in this contest.
Justin Fields was limited in Monday’s practice and is listed as day-to-day, which may indicate that they don’t wish to rush him back on such a short week, especially as their chances for playoff contention appear likely slipping away. Tyson Bagent will start in Fields’s place; Bagent averages 174.3 yards per game with a 3-6TD-INT ratio. In his first start against Oakland he looked promising but since has struggled.
No quarterback in this league is capable of throwing three interceptions, two being pick sixes in one game without suffering some degree of consequences, let alone when two are taken back for touchdowns as Bryce Young did against the Colts – the first coming with only 20 seconds remaining before halftime and stretching their lead by 17; and later during a comeback attempt when only down by ten points.
Carolina currently ranks 28th in total offense with 283.4 yards per game, 27th in scoring (17.5 PPG), and dead last defensively by allowing 28.3 points per game. Frankie Luvu leads in tackles with 62, while Brian Burns holds onto five sacks; no Panther player has more than one interception this season, while their defense has made seven takeaways while their offense has turned it over eleven times.
The Bears are a slightly better team and they are at home. Take the Bears -3.5.
