Sports betting apps are being used by more women than ever. This is according to a survey by Global Wireless Solutions (GWS), which ran from November 2021 to December 2021. According to the survey, US online bookmaker sites are growing at a faster pace than their male counterparts.
Last year, sports betting apps saw 4.6 million female users. This is a 115% increase over 2020. While male bettors continue to outnumber female users by approximately 250%, women are still logging in at record levels and placing wagers at an increasing rate. This is evident in the fact that at least one operator has more female users than males in its database.
GWS data showed that DraftKings and FanDuel attracted more female users to the US than any other betting site. GWS extrapolates the survey results to estimate that FanDuel Sportbook
had 1.7 million female users in 2021. DraftKings Sportbook has gained approximately 900,000 new female bettors in the same time period.

GWS found that younger people are driving most of the traffic to online betting apps. The monthly usage by bettors between the ages of 25 and 44 was twice that of any other age group last year.
It was also revealed that online sports betting is governed by the Pareto Principle. GWS discovered that 64% of bettors only use sportsbook apps for a few weeks per year. The top 5% account for more than half of all betting apps usage and the top 20% account for 83%.
Although women are signing up at an even higher rate for sports betting apps, they use them less often throughout the year. According to the study, 70% of female users use betting apps for one to five weeks each year.
Paul Carter, the GWS CEO, stated this in a statement:
“The power and convenience of ever-smarter apps, smarter phones and stronger digital connectivity have made many aspects of our life easier and more convenient. This includes sportsbook betting. The increase in mobile betting seems to have enabled sportsbook app developers to reach demographics that they previously struggled to attract such as women and younger adults em>
Are sportsbooks better at marketing themselves to women? Or are women taking it upon themselves to get into sports betting?
It is unlikely that boyfriends or husbands will convince their wives to open accounts to receive additional bonuses. A quick glance at the terms and conditions of any betting bonus will show that legal betting sites only offer one bonus per household and IP address.
Competition is another possibility. Like my wife, some women are constantly in competition. I love to challenge my wife to friendly wagers every now and again, so why not use a regulated betting app to do this? To get bragging rights and to win, we can each place separate bets or run an ongoing challenge.
You could also think that women are becoming more involved due to increased attendance at sporting events and the availability of sports betting in the USA. It’s likely that a combination of these factors has resulted in more women betting on sports than ever before.
