The Hoosier State ushered in legal sports betting in September 2019, making it the 13th U.S. state and the second Midwestern state to go live in the industry at the time. Gov. Eric Holcomb signed Indiana’s sports wagering bill into law on May 8, 2019. Check out the best bookmakers in Indiana!
On September 1, Gov. Holcomb placed the first bets – one for the Pacers and Colts to win their respective championships and one for the Indiana Fever (WNBA), to win that night’s contest (they lost). Three licensed sportsbooks were launched ahead of the 2019 NFL season.
Online/mobile betting began to take off a month later. BetRivers, DraftKings, and FanDuel were the first to open their doors. Check out the top new sportsbooks in Indiana!
Indiana law permits each licensed sportsbook to have up to three “skins,” which are unique online brands that can be hosted under the same umbrella. The state could have up to 40 online sportsbooks. However, that has not been the case. Instead, New Jersey has seen over a dozen quality online sportsbooks enter the state. Many more are expected to follow in the near future.
At the moment, sportsbook permits have been granted to 15 properties, which include casinos, racetracks, riverboats and off-track betting (OTB) facilities.
There are many differences in the size and scope of the betting options and technology offered by sportsbooks.
Online sportsbooks in Indiana are now open! DraftKings and BetRivers were the first to open. They accepted initial bets in October 2019. FanDuel was next to follow suit just a few short weeks later. Each sports betting license can host up to three skins. This means that there may be up to 45 Indiana online sportsbooks by the time the market is fully developed. Bettors in Indiana have the option to wager at any of these sportsbooks:
BetRivers was the first to enter the Indiana online sports betting market. DraftKings allows you to wager on live and traditional sporting events. Their Flash Bets feature offers unrivaled wagering speed, specificity, and precision. You can, for example, bet on each point of a tennis match by clicking a single button. DK also offers Pools, where participants can choose from a variety of prop-like bets. The prize is awarded to the person who makes the most accurate picks. There are large guaranteed prize pools, so it could be very lucrative.

Online punters can place bets via the FanDuel app on iOS and Android, as well as through a web browser. FanDuel has already established a significant market share in states such as New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. It’s no surprise that FanDuel is also a force to reckon with in Indiana.

It is a strong operator and a potential market leader. BetMGM is likely to be among the top five in most states (Indiana included).
BetMGM’s interface is both attractive and intuitive on mobile and desktop. It offers a variety of betting options, banking options, and an endless supply of promotional opportunities. BetMGM shines because of its large selection of prop bets. They sometimes offer hundreds of betting options for select NBA and NFL games.
