Following the passing of Senate Bill 247, Louisiana was the very first state in the US to pass the power of sports betting approval into the hands of residents in each parish. Because of this, players in these parishes are unable to sign up and place bets at online sportsbooks. Sports betting fans are only allowed to place bets from within approved parishes in Louisiana. The parishes with legal sports betting markets include New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport. Players who live outside the legal betting markets in Louisiana are free to travel to one of the parishes with legal betting markets.
