The results are in – Is sports betting legal in Shreveport?
Sports betting was officially legalized in the state of Louisiana in June 2021. Gov. John Bel Edwards then passed the power into the hands of Louisiana residents in the form of a referendum. Before officials signed Senate Bill 247, voters in all 64 Louisiana parishes were given the power to individually vote for approval in their respective parish. On November the 3rd 2020, all of the votes were counted. In conclusion, a total of 56 out of 64 parishes voted for the legalization of sports betting. So the question remains – is sports betting allowed in Shreveport?
Following the passing of Senate Bill 247, Louisiana was the very first state in the US to pass the power of sports betting approval into the hands of residents in each parish. Because of this, the residents were allowed to have a say in the matter of whether or not sports betting would be legalized. The following parishes voted against the legalization of sports betting:
Caldwell
Sabine
Winn
Union
West Carroll
LaSalle
Catahoula
Franklin
Unfortunately, players in these parishes decided against the
legalization of sports betting by parish
vote. Because of this, players in these parishes are unable to sign up and place bets at online sportsbooks. Sports betting fans are only allowed to place bets from within approved parishes in Louisiana. The parishes with legal sports betting markets include New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport. Players who live outside the legal betting markets in Louisiana are free to travel to one of the parishes with legal betting markets.
