Back when the November 2020 election season took place, there were lots of local elections. During this time, various ballot measures were passed throughout the US. Following the changes in legislation, sports betting is now legal in lots of popular states, including Louisiana. But is sports betting allowed in Lafayette?
While sports betting is now legal in the Pelican State, it doesnβt necessarily mean you are allowed to place your bets just yet! The rules and regulations vary depending on the parish. Let’s take a closer look.
In November 2020, there was a referendum for Louisiana residents to vote on legalized sports betting in LA. Within this election, residents of each individual parish could vote on legalizing sports betting locally in their own county. Because of this, the rules and regulations alter between all parishes. Residents of 55 parishes voted for the legalization of sports betting while the remaining 9 parishes voted against it. The majority of parishes in Louisiana can now experience fully legal online sports betting markets including New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and most importantly, Lafayette.
In Lafayette, 63% of voters selected to vote for the proposal passed. Meanwhile, some of the parishes had over 70% of the votes for the legislation. There was 76% support in New Orleans and 76% in Jefferson. These figures just go to show that online sports betting is in high demand within Louisiana. Friday the 28th of January 2022 was a milestone in the history of sports betting in Louisiana. Players in Louisiana can now access legalized sports betting of all kinds. Previously, it was only possible to bet on sports at brick and mortar locations. As of January 28, 2022, players now have the option to access mobile sports betting sites in the Pelican State.
The fun doesn’t end there because many more Louisiana operators set to launch in the coming weeks, including big names like WynnBET, Betfred, and Golden Nugget.
