Sports betting is not yet legal in Massachusetts although the senate had debated it since July 2021 when the Bay State representatives gave the bill to the state. Check out the best new bookmakers.
According to sources, Massachusetts senate president Karen Spilka stated that she will ensure that sports betting legalization will occur if Beacon Hill as an operator of sports betting manages to negotiate with the compromise on the bill. Also, Spilka stated that she will align Massachusetts’ bill as same as neighboring states with gaming legality, including Connecticut and New Hampshire.
But, Spilka said that there is the possibility that her colleagues will do the opposite, because of the different decisions coming from them, while the legislative session is near to occur. She states that it will need a mere effort to reconcile in that condition.
As per Ashland Democrat, Spilka said that the conference committees for the bill are on their way to legalizing the bill by negotiating reconciliation. She also asserted that the problem would be resolved last week. But, until Friday, no update emerged from the committee about the bill.
According to MassLive, state representative Jerry Parisella said that he asserted his hope for the bill legislation will be accepted by governor Charlie Baker if Spilka and other Legislatures made the reconciliation. He stated that Massachusetts was left behind 30 states in the U.S. that had legalized sports betting.
In April, House representative speaker Ron Mariano told Masslive’s reporters that he was having difficulty figuring out the purpose of the bill. However, Baker had said that he would support the sports betting reconciliation bill depending on how the results of the legislation process.
Play Massachusetts’ Jason Schaumburg said that it will take away the chance of getting money for the state if Massachusetts cannot decide on the legalization process as soon as possible.
“There’s a number of advocacy organizations that have pointed out part of the benefit of advertising is making (bettors) aware of what sports books are safe and legal for them … We definitely would advocate for any and all policies that produce a healthy legal market and not people betting in illegal markets,” he said.
