The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has begun paying casino host communities for the first quarter of fiscal 2022-2023. The city of Niagara Falls acquired its share of hosting Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara in the period of April 1 to June 30, 2022.
The Crown corporation rewards local communities for agreeing to host casino amenities through Municipality Contribution Agreements. Payments to hosts are based on a formula that applies to all provincial gaming facilities and uses a graduated scale of gaming revenue for each location.
Niagara Falls has earned CA$6,257,258 million (US$4,8 million) for hosting Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara from April 1 to June 30, 2022, from OLG. Since Casino Niagara opened in 1996, the Crown agency has paid the municipality about CA$181 million ($140 million) in non-tax revenue.
Comparatively, the city collected only around CA$2.9 million (US$ 2,4 million) through Municipality Contribution Agreements in the last quarter of 2021-2022. This means casinos are doing well this fiscal year. The municipality has earned more than CA$11,5 million (US$8,9 million) from two premium gaming locations in 2021-2022.
Along with Niagara Falls, Thunder Bay has also received a check from the OLG for hosting Gateway Casino Thunder Bay. The municipality got a payment of CA$704,604 (US$545,515) for the first quarter of the current fiscal year. The community has generated CA$50,705,22 (US$3,925,676) in gaming revenue since the launch of the premium casino site in the area in 2000.
OLG has also paid Greater Sudbury for hosting Gateway Casinos Sudbury. The Crown agency provided the community with a check for CA$516,541 for the first quarter. The city has collected a total of CA$46,4 million (US$36 million) since the opening of the gaming facility in the region in November 1999.
In addition, OLG reported in May that PROLINE, its sports betting brand, has been performing well despite the introduction of Ontario’s mobile sports betting market. The Crown agency added NFL Draft props and others to its platform to keep ahead of the market.
