Businessman, philanthropist and gambler Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale took home some extra cash after reaping his massive World Series payout. Mattress Mack received his $30 million payout from Caesars Sportsbook on Thursday night at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, according to Caesars Entertainment.
A legal sports bet made by Mattress Mack accounted for the largest payout in U.S. history, according to the company.
On May 13, Mattress Mack wagered a $3 million bet at 10-to-1 odds on his hometown team, the Houston Astros, to win the 2022 World Series. At home in Houston, the Astros defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 in Game 6 of the World Series on November 5.
After the Astros won, Mattress Mack took home $75 million as he wagered $10 million with a variety of sportsbooks. According to AP, alongside his $3 million Caesars bet, he also bet $2 million with BetMGM, $2 million with Barstool Sports, and $1 million each with Wynn, Unibet, and Betfred.
“What can we say? We just wrote the biggest check in sports betting history to Mattress Mack for $30,000,000. Would we do it all again? You bet,” COO of Caesars Digital Ken Fuchs said in a statement.
“While Mack may have won this round on the field, we’re proud of how we teamed up to support first responders and military veterans in Houston, Philly, and Atlantic City. And to Mack—we tip our Astros cap—and remind him that he can now support his Texans and Rockets…both attractively priced at +100000 to win a championship. The Astros are also currently +550 to win next year’s Fall Classic.”
BetMGM posted a video of Mattress Mack picking up the $10 million early Friday morning. Later, as he was making his way to the airport, he was filmed carrying the cash in a wheelbarrow.
“This money is heavy,” Mattress Mack said as he wheeled the cash to the plane.
