How the FanDuel hack happened
On the same day, DraftKings and FanDuel both reported irregular activity on their platforms. The report was on Monday, November 21st, and while both operators detected unauthorized activity, DraftKings was hit harder with approximately $300 000 missing from customer accounts.
FanDuel customers’ funds appear untouched, even though the operator also reported unauthorized activity.
The login information was allegedly acquired on other sites, not the operator sites themselves, leading to irregular activity and loss of funds. Hackers were able to bypass the DraftKings 2FA or two-factor authentication to access customer accounts, which could have led to the loss of funds.
