Draftkings account hacked: Do these changes immediately and have look at the best and safest Draftkings alternatives

Rumors have been rife that DraftKings has been hacked have been circulating online for the past few days, with a small number of users detailing how funds in their DraftKings account appeared to have been removed. The brand has now confirmed these reports are accurate, with up to $300,000 of customer funds potentially compromised.

DraftKings have been clear that their platform appears to be secure, with the issue being attributable to individual account issues. In a statement, DraftKings’ co-founder Paul Liberman said: “DraftKings is aware that some customers are experiencing irregular activity with their accounts. We currently believe that the login information of these customers was compromised on other websites and then used to access their DraftKings accounts where they used the same login information.”

DraftKings hacked: what to do next

If you currently have a DraftKings account, then we’d highly recommend the following steps:

• Check your statements and account balance. Be particularly alert to deposits of $5 that you haven’t made: many affected users are reporting that this amount has been deposited to their account, with the hackers then attempting to withdraw the entire account balance to their cards. If you see a $5 deposit or any other concerning activity, contact DraftKings directly to discuss.

• Change your password. Even if all looks well with your account right now, change your DraftKings password immediately. Remember to choose a new password that is unique and difficult to crack; password generators such as LastPass can help in this regard.

• Setup two-factor authentication. One of the best ways of protecting your account is to use two-factor authentication, or 2FA as it is more commonly known. To do this, you’ll need to (on either the app or the site) navigate to the Login & Security section of your account settings, then head to the DraftKings 2FA section and follow the on-screen instructions.

• Make sure you are receiving DraftKings emails. Some users have reported auto-generated emails from DraftKings alerting them to a deposit or activity on their account, so check your email settings to make sure any DraftKings-related emails are not set to automatically go to spam.

What to do if your DraftKings account is hacked

Contact DraftKings as soon as you become aware of the problem: there is a live chat option on their site. We would also usually suggest messaging on Twitter, but some Reddit users have reported problems with the official account – @DK_Assist – so give that one a miss for now.

Also, try not to panic. DraftKings have been clear: they intend to “make whole any customer that was impacted.”
