DraftKings Sportsbook was the latest provider amongst the best sports betting sites that applied to the Ohio Casino Control Commission for licensure. If their application gets approved, DraftKings will be launched in the Buckeye State on January 1, 2023.
DraftKings joins BetMGM and PointsBet in the OCCC license portal. All sportsbooks that want to launch by January 1st must apply by July 15, which is likely to result in a surge in applications over the next few weeks. The House Bill 29 in Ohio allows for up to 25 mobile licenses.
DraftKings submitted their application under the name Crown Ohio Gaming LLC. on June 22. The OCCC established a deadline for applications and kept their January 1 launch date to ensure that all Ohio sportsbook apps launched on the same day, rather than the shotgun approach used in New York.
They applied for a Mobile Management Services Provider License, which will lead to a Type A (mobile and online) license. This is in keeping with the DraftKings Sportsbook mobile application that is available in other states.
DraftKings has yet to announce any partnerships with Ohio-based sports teams. Similarly, the operator is not yet aware of any potential partners for the Cleveland Guardians and Cincinnati Bengals – but they have an agreement with the NFL and NBA.
DraftKings may be familiar to Ohioans from the Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS), platform. DraftKings was launched shortly after Ohio approved DFS. If you are already signed up with DraftKings DFS, it will be easier to sign up for the sportsbook in January.
DFS will still be available in Ohio, even though Ohio will miss most of the NFL Season – why not check out our DraftKings review to find out how you can get started?
