Two home runs by Willy Adames and Andrew McCutchen helped the Milwaukee Brewers to a 4-1 victory over the Washington Nationals on Sunday. After 10 days of victory drought, Milwaukee finally broke the losing streak. Check out the best bookmakers for betting on Baseball!

Adames led off the third inning with a drive to the left-field wall that brought Tyrone Taylor home. With a 2-run home run to left-center field, he added to Milwaukee’s lead in the fifth inning.

McCutchen hit his fourth home run of the year, though it was the only hit for the day. In the ninth inning, McCutchen added to the lead with a home run to left-center field that landed not far from Adames’ strike.

Brewers vs. Nationals gameplay

A total of six Brewers batters earned a hit on Sunday, including Adams and McCutchen. The other four batters were Christian Yellich, Rowdy Tellez, Omar Narváez, and Tyrone Taylor. The Brewers tallied nine hits while Washington had only eight in the game.

Josh Bell’s sacrifice fly allowed the Nationals to score one run home in the fifth inning. However, Milwaukee’s pitching was not affected much by it. Crew pitcher Jason Alexander started his third game of the year, giving up seven hits and a sacrifice fly by Bell.

Hoby Milner was credited with the win after taking over two outs in the fifth inning. Milner threw 1.1 innings and gave up only one hit. He pitched a strikeout as well.

Brewers’ eight-game losing streak came to an end with this win. Their last win was a 5-4 comeback victory over the San Diego Padres on June 2. The Brewers dropped to second place in the National League Central, one game behind St. Louis.

The Brewers head to New York for a three-game series on Tuesday against the Mets. Currently, the Mets lead the National League with a 39-22 record.

With a 3-6 record and 3.92 ERA, Adrian Houser will start for Milwaukee. New York has not yet decided on its starter for Tuesday’s game. Houser has played in just two games against the Mets in his entire career, so he does not have a lot of experience against them. He has pitched 3.1 innings during those appearances, striking out three and giving up two hits. Check out the top sports betting sites for betting on Baseball!

The Nationals failed to achieve a series sweep

As part of their quest for their first series sweep of the season, the Nationals looked to Paolo Espino.

The long reliever made his first start of 2022 on Sunday, pairing with rookie Evan Lee to limit Milwaukee to three runs over six innings, keeping them in striking distance, which Nationals Manager Dave Martinez deemed as “a quality start”. The Nationals lost 4-1 at Nationals Park, but Martinez was pleased with their performance.

“That’s all you can ask from them,” said Martinez.

Washington essentially paired Espino and Lee up to fill the rotation spot left by Joan Adonis. Lee, 24, debuted in the major league on June 1, losing to the Mets. While Espino started 19 games last season, his plays were mainly in blowouts this season. The most pitches he threw were 55, and he finished three innings twice. Espino was replaced by Lee after two outs of the fourth.

“I was just trying to go out there as far as I could,” Espino said. “I was feeling okay, but I understand also I haven’t been out there for more than three [innings]. … They were going the safe route.”
