Tennessee Volunteers (2-0, 0-0 SEC) will look to earn their first conference win this season when they take on Florida Gators (1-1, 0-0 SEC) on Saturday at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at 7 PM ET.
The Volunteers recently won their game against Austin Peay by outscoring them 30-13 and were 48.5-point favorites; while Florida defeated McNeese 49-7 as 48-point favorites.
The Gators managed to respond to their season-opening loss against Utah with a win against the McNeese State Cowboys, giving them some momentum heading into Saturday’s matchup against the Tennessee Volunteers and hoping for their second consecutive victory. Florida is currently averaging 30 points per game and is throwing for 283 yards and rushing for 170.
Graham Mertz has completed 74% of his passes for 526 yards and two touchdowns, with only one interception. Montrell Johnson Jr. led the team with 18 carries for 125 yards and two touchdowns while Ricky Pearsall led with 14 receptions for 215 yards with one touchdown reception.
Florida’s defense has been outstanding, allowing only 15.5 points per game on average. They conceded just seven points in their previous matchup and will need another strong showing to secure victory this time.
The Volunteers have already had an excellent start, winning both games this season. Now it’s time for their most difficult test yet as they take on Florida on Saturday in what should be a memorable match-up. Tennessee has averaged 39.5 points in each game so far this season. They have averaged throwing for 220 yards per game while rushing for 257.5.
Joe Milton III has completed 66% of his passes for 429 yards, four touchdowns, and 40 rushing yards with three scores. Jaylen Wright leads the team with 25 carries for 233 yards; Ramel Keyton holds eight receptions, totalling 118 yards for one score.
Tennessee has performed admirably defensively this season, giving up only 13 points per game on average. They also allowed 13 in their most recent matchup, so another similar effort will likely be necessary if Tennessee wants to claim victory here.
The Gators’ defense should allow them to hang around in this game; the offense will not allow them to win. Tennessee 24 Florida 13!
