Top 5 best bets for the Pennzoil 400 

As we move into week three of the Nascar season and the drivers head to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the Pennzoil 400, it has become obvious these NextGen cars are starting to look like Nascars answer to bring more excitement to racing and is certainly making the racing more competitive with 19 different drivers recording a top 10 finish after only two races. Last week at Fontana was just a great race with Kyle Larson proving he is still the best driver in the sport right now and his driving ability was on full display after working his way to a win from the back of the pack. After Chevrolet’s mediocre performance at Daytona, they came roaring back at Fontana taking four out of the top five finishing spots. However, this week we move to Las Vegas for the first cookie-cutter 1.5-mile track of the season which has different racing dynamics than the superspeedways we have seen thus far. I look for experienced drivers who have historically finished well at 1.5-mile tracks to steal the show this week.

Top 5 best bets for the Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway

• Kyle Larson once again takes the top spot this week because Kyle Larson can flat outdrive. Larson also won the Pennzoil 400 last year and historically performs very well at 1.5-mile tracks. Larson is currently +500 to win, +100 to finish in the top 3, and –210 to finish in the top five.

• Joey Logano rebounded last week at Fontana after a poor Daytona 500 showing. Logano always races well at Las Vegas winning the Pennzoil 400 most recently in 2020, and 2019. I look for Logano to finish strong at Las Vegas and it’s very possible he will record his first win of the season. Logano is currently +800 to win, +170 to finish in the top 3, and –140 to finish in the top 5

•  Brad Keselowski has won the Pennzoil 400 three times and always finishes well at cookie-cutter tracks. Keselowski is looking to rebound after a disappointing 27th place finishes at Fontana. If Keselowski can keep his Ford in the front pack for much of the race, look for him to be in contention when the white flag waves. Keselowski is currently +2500 to win, +750 to finish in the top 3, and +400 to finish in the top 5. A strong finish from Keselowski this week could pay off big!

1. 1.  Kevin Harvick is coming off a 7th place finish last week after failing to finish the race at Daytona. Harvick has won the Pennzoil 400 two times most recently in 2018. Harvick has not won a race since the 2020 Bristol night race and is overdue for a big day. I look for Harvick to run a strong race and finish in the top 5 this week at Las Vegas. Harvick is currently +2000 to win, +500 to finish in the top 3, and +300 to finish in the top 5

• Denny Hamlin is last year’s winner of the South Point 400 at Las Vegas, and typically runs well on the 1.5-mile tracks. Hamlin is off to a slow start this year finishing 15th last week, however he was in the 6th position on the final restart of the race but got out of the draft and lost positions quickly. I look for Hamlin to finish strong this week and get a Toyota a top five finish. Hamlin is currently + 1200 to win, +240 to finish in the top 3, and -120 to finish in the top 5. This Weeks Wild Card 

 Chase Elliot was in contention to win last week late in the race until he was wrecked by his teammate Kyle Larson. Elliot had a top ten finish at Daytona and worked hard last week to get in contention to win after going a lap down early in the race. Elliot’s name is always in the conversation these days, and I look for him to run a strong race this week. Elliot is currently +800 to win, +170 to finish in the top 3, and –145 to finish in the top 5.
