What an exciting finish at the Bristol dirt race this past Sunday. Kyle Busch picked up his first win of the season cementing his position in this yearโs post season. Racing on dirt at Bristol has become as polarizing as American politics, fans either love it or hate it. It seems it doesnโt matter which side of the fence fans are on however because over 4 million of them tuned into watch the race this past Sunday, and Nascar has already announced the dirt race at Bristol will be back for the 2023 season. This week the drivers will be competing at one of the fastest tracks in all of motorsports. Talladega has become known for how unpredictable the race can be, and sometimes superspeedways provide the best opportunity for struggling drivers to pick up a win. With the unpredictability of the track, I look to veteran drivers to have the best chance of finishing strong.ย Donโt forget to join Steve Risley, Joe Spilman and Ryan Peters on The Grueling Truth Nascar Show Wednesdays at 7pm as they recap all the action from the previous week and give you their top picks for the next race. Kyle Larson is still the best driver in the sport, and I look for that talent and experience to help keep him out of the inevitable trouble that comes with racing at superspeedways. I look for Larson to take it easy and wait to make his move until midway into stage three. Larson fans should take it easy if you see him running outside the top 10 in the first two stages. Larson is +1600 to win, +450 to finish in the top 3, and +200 to finish in the top 5.ย ย Check out the top new sportsbooks to bet on the races!
Joey Logano Has three wins at Talladega in his career and finished third last year at the fall race. Logano is in the top five this week because he is still one of the best and most experienced drivers in the series. Logano is +1200 to win, +280 to finish in the top 3, and +150 to finish in the top 5.
Chase Elliott won at Talladega in 2019 and has finished better than average during his career at Superspeedways. Elliott tends to run better from the front, and I look for him to try and stay near the top 5 the entire race. Also, Elliottโs pit crew will need to turn in a strong performance this week to keep him near the front all day. Elliott is +1400 to win, +400 to finish in the top 3, and +175 to finish in the top 5.
Ryan Blaney has two wins at Talladega in the last six races, and despite not having a win yet in 2022 he is having a great season, finishing in the top 5 in five of the nine races thus far in 2022. If Blaney can stay out of trouble this week look for him to be competing for a win at the end of the race. Blaney is +1000 to win, +250 to finish in the top 3, and +125 to finish in the top 5.
Danny Hamlin usually qualifies and finishes well at superspeedways and at Talladega in particularly. Hamlin won at the fall race in 2020, and I look for him to run well this week. I wouldnโt be surprised to see Hamlin finish in the top 3 and possibly win on Sunday. Hamlin is +1400 to win, +400 to finish in the top 3, and +175 to finish in the top 5.
