On Sunday at 2:30 P.M. NASCAR is set to run the 65th Daytona 500. This year’s race looks to be as exciting as it gets. Daytona holds a special place in every NASCAR fan’s heart and is the most coveted trophy in all of American Motorsports. We have seen everything in the Daytona 500, from triumph to death. What race fan will ever forget the 1998 Daytona 500 when 7-time cup champion Dale Earnhardt won his only Daytona 500 at the age of 46, and every crew member on every team lined up on pit road to shake his hand as he drove to victory lane. Tragically Dale lost his life just three years later on the finale lap of the 2001 Daytona 500 when Sterling Marlin made accidental contact with the rear of Earnhardt’s number 3 car sending him into the wall head-on at 186 MPH. The Daytona 500 has so much history it has become one of the most iconic racing events and the world, and a true American tradition.
