Class of 2025: Your 2025 F1 Driver Line-up

Six rookies, a whirlwind of driver swaps, and the biggest shake-up of all—Lewis Hamilton in Ferrari red. The 2025 Formula One season is shaping up to be one of the most unpredictable in years. With fresh talent looking to make a name for themselves, seasoned veterans defending their turf, and teams scrambling to find the perfect formula for success, the grid has never looked more exciting. From blockbuster moves to rising stars, The Grueling Truth takes a deep dive into the runners, riders, and bold predictions for the season ahead.

McLaren

Fresh off their first constructors’ title in 26 years, McLaren has one job: do it again, but this time, take home the drivers’ crown too. Lando got a masterclass in ruthlessness from Max last year—now it’s time to put those lessons to use, especially with Oscar turning up the heat. If they succeed, Zak Brown will have yet another excuse to hit the tattoo parlor. If they fail, it’ll be because they ran out of clever tricks when flexi wings get banned. TGT Prediction – 2nd place.

Lando Norris [4] GBR, Oscar Piastri [81] AUS

Ferrari

Ferrari came so close last year, and their response? Just hire the most successful driver in F1 history. If that doesn’t do the trick, then what will? With two absolute superstars in the garage, they’ve officially run out of excuses—unless, of course, the intern gets left in charge of strategy again, which, let’s be honest, is entirely possible. Success means not making disastrous tire calls in the rain. Failure? Anything less than first place when you’ve got the most expensive driver pairing in history. TGT Prediction – 1st place.

Red Bull

Max Verstappen finished 2024 with the third-fastest car—and still won his fourth title without breaking a sweat. The question is, can he do it again without a head start? That depends on Liam Lawson, who, with 11 races under his belt, needs to do a better job than the last guy. And the guy before him. And the one before that. If Red Bull pulls it off, they might as well try recreating Adrian Newey’s genius using AI. If they don’t, it’ll probably be because they crushed yet another promising junior career before it even got going. TGT Prediction – 3rd place.

Mercedes

For the first time ever, a Mercedes works team will start an F1 season without one of Fangio, Schumacher, or Hamilton behind the wheel. That’s a big deal. Now, it’s up to George Russell, who’s still waiting for a championship-caliber car, and 18-year-old Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who’s still waiting to grow a beard. If they get it right, the W16 will finally handle like a race car and not Bambi on roller skates. If they don’t, they’ll probably figure out how to master ground effect just as F1 decides to scrap it. TGT Prediction – 4th place.

Aston Martin

Aston Martin shocked the F1 world by hiring Adrian Newey, who officially joins the team in March. The AMR25 won’t have his fingerprints on it yet, but the real fun starts when his aero updates hit the track. Expect faster lap times and an even bigger grin from Fernando Alonso. If things go well, they might just make a car quick enough to flatter the boss’s son. If they don’t, they’ll be stuck begging the greatest designer in F1 history to stop tinkering with the Valkyrie instead. TGT Prediction – 5th place.

Alpine

Flavio Briatore gave Jack Doohan an early debut in Abu Dhabi, then a month later paid off Williams to hire Franco Colapinto as Alpine’s back-up driver. Does this scream confidence in their young Aussie? Not really. Will it help soothe a team still trying to recover from the collapse of its engine program? Also no. If they somehow get through the season without sacking another team principal, they’ll call it a win. If they don’t, at least they’ll have made enough headlines to shift a few more A290s. TGT Prediction – 8th place.

Ready to fight: Pierre Gasly [10] FRA, Jack Doohan [7] AUS

Haas

Haas punched above its weight last season, which for them means finishing anywhere but last. This time, they’re banking on a mix of experience and raw talent. Esteban Ocon is a known quantity, but 19-year-old Ollie Bearman is a wild card—though he did alright as a Ferrari super-sub last year, remember? If the design team keeps up, he could be 2025’s breakout star. A first-ever podium would be the dream, but if things go sideways, they might just lose all their American fans to Cadillac. TGT Prediction – 6th place.

VCARB, Racing Bulls

Whatever they want to call themselves, What is the point of the Red Bull junior team these days? Since Verstappen, every graduate has been chewed up and spat out by the mothership. Tsunoda somehow hasn’t had that, uh, privilege yet, but Hadjar, 20, is next in line. Anyone about to be promoted prematurely, we salute you. If they can get one person to say “Visa Cash App Racing Bulls” with a straight face, that’ll be a success. If not, well… time to send another SOS to Daniel Ricciardo. TGT Prediction – 9th place.

Can we call them Minardi? Yuki Tsunoda [22] JAP, Isack Hadjar [6] FRA

Williams

Williams embarrassed itself last year by not having enough spare parts to field both cars in Australia. PR disaster aside, that’s what happens when your drivers keep chucking it in the wall. Enter Carlos Sainz, straight from Ferrari, here to restore some order. Now all they need is for the FW47 to actually be quick. If they can get through the season without writing off a chassis every other weekend, it’s progress. If not, they’ll be giving up and shifting focus to 2026 by April. TGT Prediction – 7th place.

Sauber

Sauber is in limbo. Next year, it’ll officially become Audi, but for now, it’s stuck in transition, surrounded by a whirlwind of rumors and unable to properly fix its many, many problems. Their solution? Hire F1’s most experienced non-podium finisher alongside an untested F2 champion. At least things can’t get worse… right? If they can be competitive enough to not scare Audi away for 2026, that’s a win. If they somehow score even fewer points than last year, well, good luck explaining that to their future bosses. TGT Prediction – 10th place.
