Dillashaw will be fighting for his seventh title. Sterling won via split decision in the first defense of his title in April. Dillashaw has the experience advantage and has competed at championship level more often than Sterling, but Sterling’s performance against Cory Sandhagen was much more impressive than expected. Dillashaw won a split-decision victory in the fifth round over Cory Sandhagen in July of last year.

Dillashaw has never been submitted in his UFC career. Dillashaw is an excellent grappler whose training footage before the Sterling fight prioritized grappling. Sterling has many advantages in this fight, including his age and momentum. Since 2017, the champion has won a record seven consecutive times. Dillashaw lost in 2016 and was defeated again in 2019. Dillashaw came back to win one fight last year.

Sterling Money Line

The UFC 280 odds support Sterling’s win in almost every category. Dillashaw isn’t able to handle the bantamweight cut well and is approaching forty.

Petr Yan -275 against Sean O’Malley -215

UFC 280 betting odds show O’Malley’s meteoric rise coming to an abrupt halt. Yan is ahead in betting odds wins by submission, points, and TKO. O’Malley is a knockout power fighter, but Yan has never been rocked or dropped in his MMA career.

O’Malley supporters should be worried about him facing the #3 Bantamweight. O’Malley has not met any top 15 fighters but is still #11. O’Malley has beaten Paiva (4-4 UFC) but has not won any other significant fights. It was upset that he lost to Vera in 2020. O’Malley’s ability to knock out any of the relevant athletes is still untested.
