Shaun “The Bully” Asher vs. Tyler Ray: Why the Cincinnati Veteran Can Make a Statement at LFS Night of Champions

Shaun “The Bully” Asher has spent more than a decade building a reputation as one of the Cincinnati-area’s most experienced and dangerous combat sports veterans. On September 12, 2026, Asher gets another opportunity to add to that legacy when he faces Tyler “Wolverine” Ray at Legends Fight Series: Night of Champions at MegaCorp Pavilion in Newport, Kentucky.

The event begins at 7:00 p.m. ET and is part of LFS’s growing effort to establish itself as one of the Midwest’s premier combat sports promotions. LFS evolved from the history of Team Tory and Ohio Combat League and says its goal is to create opportunities for both rising prospects and proven veterans.

For Asher, this matchup is more than another fight. It puts a veteran with major-promotion experience in front of his home-region audience against an opponent capable of testing virtually every part of his game.

Who Is Shaun “The Bully” Asher?

Asher has competed professionally since 2011 and has fought everywhere from the regional circuit to Bellator, Resurrection Fighting Alliance and Eagle FC. His résumé includes victories by knockout, submission and decision, making him much more than a one-dimensional power fighter.

Sherdog currently lists Asher with 15 victories, including eight by knockout or TKO. His career has featured wins over opponents such as Anthony Trotter, Michael Cockerham, Garrett Olson and Anthony Garrett. Most recently, Asher defeated Taylor Orr by unanimous decision on July 25, 2026, giving him momentum heading into LFS.

That recent victory may be especially important. Instead of entering Night of Champions after a long layoff, Asher will be coming back less than two months after completing three full rounds.

Asher’s Involvement With Legends Fight Series

LFS has promoted Night of Champions as one of its major 2026 events, bringing professional and amateur MMA to MegaCorp Pavilion on September 12. Asher’s matchup with Ray is listed by Combat Registry as a scheduled title bout, giving the veteran a prominent role on a card designed to showcase some of the region’s most interesting talent.

Asher fits the LFS concept perfectly. The promotion describes itself as a place where established fighters and emerging prospects collide, and few regional fighters bring Asher’s combination of experience, recognizable name and high-level competition.

Breaking Down Shaun Asher vs. Tyler Ray

Tyler Ray cannot be overlooked.

“Wolverine” brings an 11-6 professional record and has competed for organizations including the PFL, LFA, Bellator and Eagle FC. Ray owns victories over John Howard, Austin Jones and Thomas Webb, while his game has traditionally been built around grappling, submissions and the ability to win rounds. Sherdog lists five of his 11 victories by submission.

That creates an interesting stylistic battle.

Ray is likely to benefit from creating movement, forcing Asher to work, attacking in transitions and looking for opportunities to get to advantageous grappling positions.

Asher should want almost the opposite type of fight.

“The Bully” needs to make this physical.

Why Shaun Asher Is Going to Win

Asher’s biggest advantage is his ability to turn the fight into an uncomfortable, grinding battle.

He has the power to punish Ray on the feet, but blindly chasing a knockout would be a mistake. Instead, Asher can use measured pressure to force Ray backward, cut off the cage and make him fight from uncomfortable positions.

Asher also has significantly more experience dealing with bigger, stronger opponents. He has spent large portions of his career competing at light heavyweight and heavyweight while facing fighters such as Steve Mowry, Yorgan De Castro and Misha Cirkunov.

If Asher can impose that physicality without becoming reckless, Ray could have difficulty controlling the pace.

Another factor is Asher’s recent activity. His unanimous-decision win over Orr demonstrated that he can still maintain his composure over multiple rounds instead of depending exclusively on an early knockout.

What Asher Needs to Do to Win

The game plan should revolve around four things: pressure, patience, defensive grappling and controlled violence.

First, Asher needs to cut off the cage instead of following Ray around it. Make Ray fight moving backward.

Second, he should attack the body and legs before loading up on head shots. Those attacks can slow Ray’s movement and create openings later.

Third, Asher must protect his neck and avoid careless scrambles. Submission defense is particularly important because four of Asher’s recorded professional defeats have come by submission. Ray is exactly the type of opponent who can capitalize on one poorly executed takedown or transition.

Finally, when Asher hurts Ray, he has to remain disciplined. Pressure him, make him work and force Ray to take risks rather than giving him an easy opportunity to turn a wild exchange into a submission attempt.

Prediction

Tyler Ray has the technique, conditioning and submission ability to make this a dangerous fight, but Asher’s physical strength, power, experience and ability to control the type of fight being contested give “The Bully” a legitimate path to victory.

Expect Ray to have moments, particularly when the fight becomes a technical grappling battle. But if Asher keeps his submission defense disciplined and consistently forces Ray backward, his pressure should begin taking over.

Prediction: Shaun “The Bully” Asher defeats Tyler Ray by TKO in the third round.

Conclusion

Night of Champions represents exactly what Legends Fight Series is attempting to build: established regional names, meaningful matchups and fighters with experience on some of MMA’s biggest stages.

Shaun Asher has already experienced Bellator, Eagle FC and years of regional competition. On September 12, he gets the opportunity to bring all of that experience into MegaCorp Pavilion.

Tyler Ray presents a legitimate challenge, but if “The Bully” controls the cage, stays patient and avoids dangerous submission exchanges, Asher has the tools to make Night of Champions another memorable chapter in his long combat sports career.
