For Chris “Mean” Dean, the road through combat sports has included amateur MMA, Muay Thai, bare-knuckle boxing and the challenges of turning professional. The Georgia-based featherweight is still early in his professional MMA career, but his competitive background stretches back more than a decade. His latest recorded victory gives that journey a significant milestone: a first professional MMA win.
Dean earned that breakthrough at National Fighting Championship 190 on July 10, 2026, submitting Kiara West with a rear-naked choke at 3:06 of the first round. The result brought his professional record to one victory, one defeat and one no contest, according to Sherdog. For a fighter working to establish himself, an opening-round finish provides a tangible achievement to build upon.
Standing 5-foot-11, Dean competes at featherweight and is listed as affiliated with American Top Team–Team Lima. Born June 5, 1992, the 34-year-old has competed at different weights during his development, including amateur appearances at bantamweight.
His recorded amateur MMA history began in November 2014 against Brien Calloway. Later appearances included bouts with Alex Riley and Jeremy Medina, followed by unanimous-decision victories over Shuayb Muhammad in July 2023 and Antonio Walker in July 2024. Those wins gave Dean experience managing a fight through all three rounds—an important contrast to the quick finishes that would mark his first professional outings.
The transition to professional MMA brought immediate complications. His December 2024 matchup with Miguel Suazo at Tuff-N-Uff 140 ended in a no contest after an accidental groin kick, just 44 seconds into the opening round. His next recorded professional appearance ended in a first-round TKO loss to Anthony Smith at NFC 179 in August 2025. The submission of West in July 2026 finally put a victory in his professional win column.
Dean’s competitive experience also extends beyond the cage. Tapology lists a unanimous-decision Muay Thai victory over Colby Carnes in July 2022 and a bare-knuckle boxing appearance against Jairo Santos at a BKFC Prospect Series event in October 2024. Dean lost the Santos bout by second-round TKO. These appearances add different rulesets and competitive demands to his background, although they remain separate from his MMA record.
With only three recorded professional MMA appearances, it is too early to draw firm conclusions about Dean’s ceiling or define him by a single performance. His victory over West nevertheless provides a clear starting point for the next stage of his career. The task ahead is to turn that breakthrough into consistency, showing how his years of varied combat-sports experience translate into continued success as a professional featherweight.
