Secretariat set a record at the Belmont Stakes in 1973. That has never been broken. We’ll be reviewing Secretariat’s incredible run at the Belmont Stakes in 1973, which led to him becoming the ninth Triple Crown winner. These days a lot of recency bias occurs and people argue that the athletes of years ago can’t compete with today’s athletes. Secretariat, who was heading into the Belmont to win the Triple Crown, wanted to make history. This is the first Triple Crown winner since 1948 when Citation won all three major horse-racing events.
This race was not like the others in the Triple Crown.
Secretariat started off much better and defeated Twice a Prince by a remarkable 31 lengths.
Secretariat’s 2:24.00 time was the fastest ever recorded in Belmont Stakes history.
