The Kentucky Derby gave us Rich Strike, who gave us one of the greatest upsets in Kentucky Derby history; now it’s on to the Preakness; unfortunately, Rich Strike’s handlers have decided to skip the Preakness Stakes. That is unfortunate for Horse Racing, but the Preakness still shapes up to be a great race. If you want to get in on the action, check out our best bookmakers for betting on the Preakness Stakes.
The 147th Preakness Stakes is set for Saturday, May 21, 2022. Here is more information and tips on betting the Preakness Stakes and how you can watch and wager on this year’s event. Many of the same horses that race in the Preakness Stakes will compete in the Kentucky Derby held earlier in May. Check out our Grueling Truth guide to bet on Horse Racing!
Early Voting won the Withers at Aqueduct in February and just missed at the Wood Memorial in April, being overtaken near the wire by Mo Donegal. Early voting will run this race as a stalker; not running in the derby amplifies his chances of winning at the Preakness.
This filly has a shot at beating the Boys in this race. She will carry five pounds of weight less than the boy’s will, and she is coming off an impressive win at the Kentucky Oaks. Secret Oath will be trying to become the seventh Fillie to win the Preakness Stakes.
Creative Minister will be making a big step up coming from maiden special weights and allowance races. I bet that he will be in over his head in this race.
Simplification is a stalker and finished a strong fourth at the Kentucky Derby. Simplification will have a new jockey for this race as Hall of Fame Jockey John Velazquez will take over the reins. Jose Ortiz rode Simplification in the Derby but had already committed to riding Early Voting in the Preakness.
Skippy was an allowance Horse who had worked his way up to graded stakes races. This Horse has improved a lot over his last two races and could surprise some people and finish in the top three.
Armagnac is an allowance racehorse, and I think he is way over his head in this race.
Epicenter looked poised to win the Kentucky Derby until Rich Strike came from nowhere to steal the race from him. The great thing about Epicenter is that he is consistently excellent and reliable. Epicenter has a victory at this exact distance of 1 3-16 miles in the Louisiana Derby. Epicenter is the favorite to win the Preakness, and I expect he will be a slight favorite at race time. Check out the top sports betting sites!
1) Early Voting: I think the top three favorites are the best three horses in this field for running this distance.
2) Epicenter: I hate to pick the favorite, so I won’t as I think Epicenter will come up a little short.
2) Secret Oath: I like the Fillies’ chances in this race
Skippylongstocking: Skippy has improved over his last two races, and I will probably include him on a trifecta ticket.
