Cassidy was the coach of the Boston Bruins in their Stanley Cup Finals appearance in 2019. The Bruins were second in the Atlantic Division during the regular 2018-19 National Hockey League season. They had a record of 49 wins and 24 regulation losses, and nine losses in overtime for 107 points. The Bruins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs by four to three in round one, followed by the Columbus Blue Jackets four games to two in round two.
