This week, the PGA Tour will take us to St George’s Golf & Country Club, Ontario, Canada, where the RBC Canadian Open is held. Check out the best bookmakers for betting on the RBC! Justin Thomas, the winner of the PGA Championship, is featured this week along with Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Cameron Smith in a star-studded field.
The COVID-19 pandemic has prevented the event from being played for the last two years. However, Rory McIlroy won this tournament in 2019 before it was suspended. This week, big-name players like Sam Burns and Corey Conners will be victorious in Etobicoke (Ontario). We recommend keeping an eye out for these five golfers this week at St George’s.
Justin Thomas is the first player we will be watching at Colonial Country Club this week.
Three weeks ago, the winner of the 104th PGA Championship was a player to be on the lookout for as he attempted to win his first tournament after that incredible final round at Southern Hills. He is among the top five players in the world. He will hope to repeat the form that earned him the Wanamaker Trophy.
Thomas is riding high on the wave and will be attending the RBC Canadian Open this week as one of the leaders. We urge you to keep your eyes on Thomas this week.
Scottie Scheffler (+900)
Scottie Scheffler was a professional golfer who broke into the game in 2018. The 25-year old is currently ranked number one in the Official World Golf Rankings and has taken the PGA Tour by storm.
Scheffler only took 43 days from his first PGA Tour win to become the world’s top player. This is even shorter than Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. This week, the Masters champion is in Canada to try and win his fifth PGA Tour title. It would also be his fifth for the season.
Scheffler is coming to this meeting fresh from a second-place finish at the Charles Schwab Challenge. He lost a playoff against Sam Burns for his title. Check out the top new sportsbooks for betting on the RBC! This week, he is one to watch from St George’s Golf & Country Club.
Although Conners is not a name most golf fans are familiar with, Corey Conners has proven that he can hang around with the best on the PGA Tour.
Conners is a master of iron play on the PGA Tour. He can consistently stitch irons and wedges down to 10ft. This is why he is a leader in the proximity of shots from fairway to hole on the PGA Tour. Conners is hopeful of putting on an entertaining show for his compatriots and will most certainly have the game to influence the outcome of Sunday’s Canadian Open.
This is definitely one to keep an eye on at the RBC Canadian Open.
Harold Varner III is establishing himself as one the most consistent professional golfers. “HV3” has already achieved several top 10 finishes this season, including in March’s “fifth major” at TPC Sawgrass, where he tied for sixth place at The Players Championship. This was just five shots shy of eventual winner Cameron Smith.
Varner has also had a great week at the RBC Heritage in April, finishing just one shot behind Patrick Cantlay and Jordan Spieth, the tournament’s playoff winner. We think Varner III is one to keep an eye on this week in Ontario.
Mackenzie Hughes is another hometown favorite. He is optimistic about a great week in his country. This week, St George’s Golf & Country Club will keep an eye on him.
Hughes isn’t a name that is immediately recognisable to casual golf fans, but he is a player who can put together a great week on home soil. In May, Hughes had a reasonably good week at the Wells Fargo Championship, finishing inside the top 10 in ninth.
Hughes will need to hit a lot of fairways off his tee and make some putts to win this week. But here at The Grueling Truth, we believe being one of the favourites at home will give him confidence and the belief that he will win.
