The past two seasons have been difficult for Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton. The NFL has yet to fully appreciate the potential of these dynamic wide receivers due to injuries and inconsistent quarterback play. Courtland Sutton or Jerry Jeudy: Who will have the better year?
Courtland Sutton’s Outlook
Injuries have hampered Sutton’s ability to perform in the last couple of years. It wasn’t easy to gauge his abilities last season because he played alongside Teddy Bridgewater, a game manager who rarely moved the ball down the field. Sutton is still capable of becoming a top receiver in this league, despite his 776 yards receiving season. He was a Pro Bowler in 2019, with 1,112 receiving yards and six touchdowns.
This was in a season when his quarterbacks were Joe Flacco and Brandon Allen. Imagine Courtland Sutton and Russell Wilson in a healthy pairing. Do you remember Wilson’s favorite target in Seattle? Jerry Jeudy’s Outlook
Given recent events, we will assume that everything will go well and that he can play throughout the year. Jeudy will be playing the Tyler Lockett position with Russell Wilson. Jeudy had a difficult rookie season. However, it looked like he was due to have a bounce-back year despite inconsistent quarterback play. Unfortunately, he was bitten by the injury bug early in the year. He finished the year with just 467 receiving yards and only three touchdowns. Many expect this season to be the Alabama product’s giant leap. Although the potential is there, he will make the jump in a new way.
Jeudy, like Tim Patrick, will be Wilson’s favorite safety blanket when there are no first-read opportunities. Contrary to popular belief, Courtland Sutton will still be the number one option. However, this will open Jerry Jeudy up to wide-open opportunities to show why the Denver Broncos drafted him. Jeudy will have a solid year, but Courtland Sutton will be the star of the Denver receiving core. Jeudy will have an excellent season but not as great as Courtland, Sutton’s. Expect him to receive for around 900 yards and score six to seven touchdowns.
