HOUSTON, TX — The Louisville Kings finally got over the hump—and they did it the hard way.
In a back-and-forth battle at Shell Energy Stadium, the Kings edged the Houston Gamblers 24-22 in an overtime thriller, snapping their three-game losing streak and delivering one of the most dramatic finishes of the 2026 UFL season.
This wasn’t pretty. It wasn’t clean.
👉 But it was exactly what Louisville needed.
This game came down to two things:
👉 composure and a kicker who wouldn’t miss
After watching a double-digit lead disappear, Louisville could’ve folded. Instead, they steadied themselves and leaned on their most reliable weapon—kicker Tanner Brown.
Brown was automatic all night, drilling five field goals, including a 59-yarder that set the tone early. More importantly, he kept Louisville alive late, knocking through two clutch kicks in the fourth quarter to force overtime.
When the game moved to the UFL’s shootout format, Jason Bean delivered the moment that mattered—finding Tre’von McKitty for the decisive conversion. From there, the defense slammed the door, forcing three straight incompletions to end it.
👉 That’s execution under pressure.
Houston didn’t lose this game because they were outplayed.
They lost it because they couldn’t finish.
Despite dominating on the ground, the Gamblers’ passing game never got going. With just over 100 yards through the air, Louisville was able to crowd the line of scrimmage and limit explosive plays late.
The biggest moment came in the final minute of regulation.
Houston had the game in its hands—already in field goal range—but a 38-yard attempt sailed wide, sending the game to overtime and opening the door.
They never recovered.
Add in eight penalties—several at critical moments—and it’s clear:
👉 Houston beat itself as much as Louisville beat them.
1st Quarter: Both teams came out trading blows through the kicking game. Long field goals set the tone early in what quickly became a battle of field position. Score: 3-3
2nd Quarter: Louisville took control. A short touchdown run and multiple field goals built a comfortable lead, while Houston struggled to sustain drives. Score: Louisville 16, Houston 6
3rd Quarter: Houston flipped the game completely. A 68-yard touchdown run ignited a 16-point surge, followed by a quarterback scramble that gave them the lead. Score: Houston 22, Louisville 16
4th Quarter: Tanner Brown refused to let Louisville lose, drilling two clutch field goals to tie it. Houston’s missed kick at the buzzer sent it to overtime. Score: 22-22
Overtime: Louisville converted. Houston didn’t. 👉 That was the difference.
Final: Louisville 24, Houston 22
👉 This game came down to execution—not stats.
Tanner Brown (Louisville) Five field goals. 15 points. One of the best single-game kicking performances of the season.
Jason Bean (Louisville) Didn’t force the game—but delivered when it mattered most in overtime.
Marcus Yarns (Houston) Explosive on the ground, including a game-changing long touchdown run.
Cam Gill (Louisville) Played through injury and anchored the defense with constant pressure.
Houston stuck with Taulia Tagovailoa despite a struggling passing attack.
The result?
A one-dimensional offense that allowed Louisville to adjust defensively and shut things down late.
Sometimes sticking with your guy is loyalty.
Sometimes it costs you the game.
Louisville didn’t dominate.
They didn’t control the game.
But they did something they hadn’t done all season:
👉 They finished.
For Houston, it’s another tough lesson.
For Louisville?
It might be the moment that turns their season.
Because in this league, sometimes one win changes everything.
