Anybody that does not have this ranking with Mahomes and Burrow in any order at 1-2 is crazy. The rest of the top ten is a little more tricky.
Consistency had been an issue for Lawrence until the end of last season when he came on like gang busters. The AFC South looks like it’s there for the Jags taking. Now is he good enough to be a Mahomes or a Burrow?
Prescott’s injury issues over the last few years are a concern, but he has been productive when healthy.
The Knock on Cousins is that he doesn’t play well in big games. The issue I see is that he usually has the lesser team in those games. Give the man credit for winning 13 games last season with a poor defense and offensive line.
Jackson has had injury issues over the last few seasons, but this season could be huge for Jackson with a new coordinator and better weapons than in the past.
Justin Herbert’s underrated strength lies in avoiding negative plays when facing pressure – taking sacks at only a five per cent rate last season. Herbert’s biggest issue holding him back is the lack of a quality head coach in Los Angeles. Until that changes his ranking will stay around this spot.
Hurts had a massive breakout season in 2022; can that continue? I am not completely sold on Hurts just yet, but another season like last year will put him even higher on this list.
Mahomes and Burrow have owned Allen in the postseason, but the Bengals and Chiefs have had better rosters than the Bills. The Bills look like they are getting farther away from competing with the Chiefs and Bengals, though.
I think the change of scenery will do Rodgers good; he is now with a young, complete team that looks ready to win. Rodgers seemed bored in Green Bay and I think the city change will lead to a monster year for the Jets.
Mahomes has been dominant for 4 or five years now and even though the players around him are not as good as they once were, he still makes everybody around him look better than they are. The Chiefs will get the Super Bowl hangover and lose to the Bengals in the AFC Championship game.
I think Burrow is the best quarterback in the NFL and has turned around the entire culture in Cincinnati. Burrow has beaten Mahomes in three out of four playoff games that the two have faced each other. If he wants to get more people on board, though, he needs to win a Super Bowl sooner rather than later. The Bengals looked poised to win a Super Bowl if Burrow can stay healthy.
