Robinson’s career has been highly underrated by most and it’s a shame as he was one of the greatest safeties in NFL history. Robinson led the league in interceptions twice, posting 10 interceptions in 1966 and 1970. Over his career, Robinson had 57 interceptions. The nine-time all-star is by far the best safety in Chiefs history
Shields is one of the greatest offensive linemen in NFL history and I believe he was the best in the Chiefs history. Shields holds the team record for most Pro Bowls, being selected to 12 of them and was selected to the 2000βs All-Decade team in 2010. Shields played every game in his 14-year career.
Thomas was one of the greatest cornerbacks in NFL history. Thomas owns the club record for most career interceptions, racking up 58 in 13 seasons, nearly setting the single-season record in 1974 with 12.
The numbers may pale in comparison to the numbers put up today, but the game was much different then. Dawson was a winner and he proved it by leading the Chiefs to two Super Bowl appearances and winning the Chiefs their first Super Bowl championship.
It’s an absolute joke that Taylor is not in the hall of fame as he was one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history. Named all-AFL in 1966 and all-pro in 1971 and 1972, Taylor teamed up with Hall of Fame quarterback Len Dawson to create a passing threat on one of the best football teams of all time, the 1969 Chiefs team. His receiving numbers still rank second in team history behind Tony Gonzalez.
All you need to know about the career of Willie Lanier is the fact that he was named to the NFL’s 75th-anniversary team. To call lanier a ball-hawk would be an understatement as Lanier intercepted 27 passes in his career as well as recovering 18 fumbles. He played in every Pro Bowl from 1967-1975.
Over his 12 seasons in Kansas City, Bobby Bell was the picture of toughness, starting every game during that 12-year period. Bell was named to the last six AFL All-Star teams and, after the AFL-NFL merger, the next three NFL Pro Bowls. He also intercepted 26 passes from the Linebacker position and was one of the best coverage linebackers in NFL history.
Buchanan was the first black player to be drafted No. 1 overall in professional football. He proved his value by becoming one of the most intimidating defensive linemen to ever play the game. In 1967 he batted down an amazing 16 passes at the line of scrimmage, he was an amazing athlete who could do it all.
Gonzalez is considered by most as the greatest tight end in NFL history. With the Chiefs, he set the franchise record in receptions, receiving yards, receiving touchdowns, and yards from scrimmage.
One of the most dominant Linebackers in NFL history. Thomas drafted 4th overall in 1989 turned the Chiefs defense of the 90s into a force to be reckoned with. In a shortened career Thomas set a team record for sacks, safeties, fumble recoveries, and forced fumbles as well as a record for most sacks in a game, registering seven in 1990.
