The Top 10 Redskins of all time!
Publish Date: 05/05/2023
Fact checked by: Mark Lewis

Active players are not included. So, no Washington Commanders this list is about the greatest Redskins to ever play the game.

10)Russ Grimm

The leader of the “Hogs” of the 1980s, Grimm was named to the all-decade team in the 1980s as one of the best linemen of the entire decade.

9)Dexter Manley

Manley was an absolute beast coming off the edge. Heโ€™s the โ€˜Skins career sack leader with a grand total of 97.5 sacks and has a Super Bowl championship under his belt. Manley led a great Redskins Defensive line in the 1980s and was a dominant force that doesn’t get the credit he deserves.

8)Joe Theismann

Theismann was not a Hall of Fame Quarterback, but his 1983 season was epic as the Redskins broke the league record for points scored as Theismann lead one of the most prolific offense the NFL has ever seen.

7)Sonny Jurgenson

Jurgenson’s career with the Redskins was cut short by injuries, but in the 1960s Jurgenson was one of the best Quarterbacks in the game. He never won a Super Bowl like Theismann but I believe he was a better Quarterback than Joe was.

6)Charley Taylor

Taylor started off as a running back but eventually moved to Wide Reciever and even ran back a few kicks. In 13 seasons with the โ€˜Skins, he had 649 receptions for 9,110 yards and 79 touchdowns. He had a combined 10,803 net yardage and 11 rushing touchdowns for a grand total of 540 career points.

5)Chris Hanburger

This very underrated all-time great linebacker played all 14 of his seasons with the Redskins. In those 14 seasons with the Redskins Hamburger was voted to nine Pro Bowls, six All-Pro selections, eight All-Conference first-team honors, and was the 1972 NFL 101 NFC Defensive Player of the Year, a season in which he helped lead the Redskins to their first Super Bowl appearance.

ย 4)Art Monk

Monk was consistent over a long period of time as a Redskin. He was drafted by the Redskins in 1980 and immediately played himself onto the NFL All-Rookie Team, just to name one of his notable accomplishments: 12,026 yards, 888 receptions, and 65 touchdowns. He helped lead the Skins to multiple Super Bowl Titles.

3)John Riggins

In nine years with the Redskins this short-yardage specialist accumulated 2,916 carries for 11,352 yards and 104 touchdowns. He was more than just a short-yardage specialist though and in 1982 and 1983 he was a dominant force behind back to Back Super Bowl Appearances for the Redskins. Add that to 250 catches, 2,090 receiving yards, and 12 touchdowns through the air, and you have one of the best ever at a combined 13, 435 net yards and 116 total touchdowns.

2)Darrell Green

Green is one of the greatest corners to ever play the game he was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection, four All-Pro selections, the 1996 Walter Payton Man of the Year award, the 1996 Bard Star Award, 19 seasons with at least one interception. He was a great return man and he was at his most dominant in the 1986 and 87 playoffs as he played a huge part in back-to-back upsets of the heavily favored Washington Redskins.

1)Sammy Baugh

Not only is Sammy the greatest player in franchise history he may just be the greatest player in NFL history. Sammy was the first of the modern-day Quarterbacks, on top of that he was a great defensive back who intercepted 31 passes in his career and he was a great punter averaging over 44 yards per punt during his career. Sammy could do it all and does not get the recognition he deserves.
