This is an improbable matchup because the Bengals are in it. The Bengals have been one of the league’s laughing stocks for the better part of three decades. The Rams, on the other hand, with the signing of guys like Matthew Stafford, Odell Beckham, and Von Miller just to name a few have tried to do what very few teams in the NFL have done and that’s buying a championship. Trust me I am not saying this in a negative light about the Rams, how could you? They are in the Super Bowl! What are the keys to betting on the Super Bowl? Let’s take a look at how we want to approach betting the big game?
The Bengals and the Rams are meeting for the first time in the Super Bowl. The Bengals lead the all-time season series between the teams 8-6.
The Rams are making their fifth post-merger Super Bowl appearance, while the Bengals return to the Super Bowl for the first time since the 1980s and Boomer Esiason-led teams. The Rams have never won a Super Bowl while playing in Los Angeles, they won the Super Bowl in 1999 while playing in St.Louis.
Date: Sunday, Feb. 13
Kickoff time: 6:30 p.m. ET (unofficial)
TV network: NBC
Location: SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles, Cal.
The Super Bowl for the second-straight year will be played in a home teams stadium, last year the Buccaneers won the Super Bowl in their home stadium. Playing at home has its advantages, but some of that advantage is lost because most of the tickets don’t go to actual fans but instead corporations. The Rams home games are usually overflowing with away team fans and I expect this Super Bowl to have that happen again. The Bengals have a starved fan base and it showed by the large contingent of Bengals fans that made the trip to Nashville and Kansas City.
Following the conference championships, sportsbooks installed the Rams as 3.5-point favorites over the Bengals in Super Bowl LVI. The Rams opened as -170 money-line favorites to win the game straight up at Caesars Sportsbook, and the over/under total was set at 50.5 points. Many states across the country will now let you bet on the big game from a mobile app from the comfort of your own couch. This is just the tip of the iceberg. There will be over 2000 ways to bet the game at Caesars Sportsbook. So if there’s something you expect to happen on Super Bowl Sunday like another OT or that rare safety or Aaron Donald sacking Joe Burrow, you can rest assured that you can bet on it. Really, on Super Bowl Sunday you can bet on just about anything happening as their will be literally hundreds of different prop bets to make on the game.
1. You can bet on the team (which team has more points at the end of the game with the spread adjustment “+ points” for the underdog and “- points” for the favorite).
2. You can also bet on the number of combined points scored in the game. Each sportsbook will have a total posted and all you have to do is determine whether or not the final score will be over or under that specific number. This way you don’t even have to pick the winner, you just need to pick how many points will be scored! I think on gameday the over/under on points will sit it the range of 50 points. You can even bet a parlay selecting the Rams or Bengals and combine it with an over/under bet on the total points.
3. As I already mentioned there is also a Player Prop Market which you can bet on. This market assigns a specific statistical threshold for every player in multiple categories, and you just have to bet whether or not you think that player will go over or under the specified threshold. For example, Rams WR Cooper Kupp has his market set at 8.5 receptions. Do you think he will have 9 or more catches (over) in the Super Bowl? Or do you think he will have 8 or fewer catches (under)? If you pick correctly, you win. For Super Bowl weekend, most books add cross-sport props, so if you think Dustin Johnson will have more birdies than Ja’Marr Chase has receptions, those might be for you. As I mentioned earlier anything you can possibly think of will be covered for Super Bowl Sunday
4. You can also wager on who will win the MVP of the game, who will score the first TD and who will win the 1st half. The options are wildly abundant. One of my favorites is an anytime touchdown bet, basically, if the player that you are betting on scores a touchdown at any time in the game you win the bet.
As we get closer to game time we will be breaking the game down and looking at the best way to bet on this Super Bowl. We will give you the against the spread winner of the game and our best prop bets so please check back to see if we can help you make some money on Super Bowl Sunday!
