Monday Night Football heads to Levi’s Stadium for an intriguing NFC matchup as the Washington Commanders visit the undefeated San Francisco 49ers.
San Francisco enters Week 6 at 5-0 after surviving Seattle 32-29, while Washington is 1-3-1 following a frustrating 27-27 overtime tie against the New York Giants. The Commanders had a 14-point fourth-quarter lead against New York but couldn’t finish the victory.
San Francisco is favored by 7.5 points, with the total set at 52.5.

Washington hasn’t won a true road game against San Francisco since 2004. The Commanders are also just 1-4 against the 49ers in Monday games.
Washington’s record is disappointing, but the return of Jayden Daniels dramatically changes the outlook.
Daniels returned against the Giants after missing two games because of a dislocated elbow and immediately reminded everyone why he is one of the NFL’s most dangerous dual-threat quarterbacks.
He completed 17 of 25 passes for 199 yards while rushing nine times for an incredible 103 yards and two touchdowns. Daniels finished with 302 total yards, producing touchdown runs of 38 and 26 yards.
Daniels has now rushed for 203 yards in his three appearances this season while throwing three touchdowns without an interception.
Wide receiver Terry McLaurin remains his most established weapon. McLaurin caught four passes for 62 yards against New York and has 203 receiving yards in four games.
Washington’s concern is protecting Daniels. The Giants sacked him five times last week, and now the Commanders face a San Francisco defense that just recorded five sacks against Seattle.
The 49ers are one of the NFL’s biggest early-season stories.
San Francisco improved to 5-0 by defeating Seattle 32-29 despite trailing in the fourth quarter. The 49ers defense forced four turnovers and recorded five sacks, creating the opportunities needed for another comeback victory.
Quarterback Brock Purdy continues to play exceptionally efficient football.
Purdy completed 19 of 29 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns against Seattle. Through five games, he has thrown for 1,196 yards, 13 touchdowns and only two interceptions, producing a 119.3 passer rating.
Tight end George Kittle remains one of Purdy’s most dangerous options. Kittle has caught 21 passes for 268 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 12.8 yards per reception.
The 49ers don’t need Purdy to throw 40 times. Their ability to stay balanced, create turnovers and finish drives has allowed San Francisco to remain unbeaten.
Prop availability and numbers vary by sportsbook, so these are target numbers to consider if offered near these ranges.
Daniels looked completely comfortable running the football in his return.
He averaged 11.4 yards per carry against New York, and San Francisco’s pass rush could force him to scramble frequently.
Prediction: Jayden Daniels — 67 rushing yards
Purdy is averaging more than 239 passing yards per game despite throwing for fewer than 220 yards in each of his last two.
Washington allowed New York to produce 408 total yards last week, including 326 passing yards from Jameis Winston.
Prediction: Brock Purdy — 258 passing yards
Kittle is averaging more than 53 receiving yards per game and remains particularly dangerous after halftime.
Washington must account for multiple offensive weapons, which should prevent the Commanders from consistently double-covering him.
Prediction: George Kittle — 64 receiving yards
McLaurin cleared this number against the Giants and should benefit from having Daniels back under center.
Washington will likely need to throw aggressively in the second half if San Francisco builds a lead.
Prediction: Terry McLaurin — 71 receiving yards
Daniels gives Washington a dimension San Francisco must respect on every snap. His ability to escape pressure could be the Commanders’ best answer against the 49ers’ pass rush.
McLaurin remains Washington’s best established downfield receiver and could see increased opportunities if San Francisco concentrates on containing Daniels.
Purdy has thrown 13 touchdowns against only two interceptions and has been one of the league’s most efficient quarterbacks through five weeks.
Kittle presents a difficult matchup over the middle and becomes especially dangerous when defenses devote additional attention elsewhere.
Washington must protect Daniels better than it did against New York. Five sacks against San Francisco could become devastating, particularly if they create turnovers or negative plays on early downs.
The Commanders also need Daniels’ mobility without exposing him to unnecessary hits following his elbow injury.
San Francisco’s biggest objective is forcing Washington to play from behind. The 49ers have excelled at creating turnovers, and Daniels becomes easier to pressure if Washington is constantly facing obvious passing situations.
Washington’s defense also cannot allow Purdy to operate comfortably. His 13-to-2 touchdown-to-interception ratio illustrates how rarely San Francisco has given opponents easy opportunities.
The San Francisco -7.5 spread means the 49ers must win by eight points or more for San Francisco to cover.
Because the spread includes the half-point, there is no possibility of a push.
If San Francisco wins by seven points—for example, 31-24—Washington +7.5 covers. Washington also covers if it wins the game outright or loses by six or fewer.
San Francisco is clearly the stronger team right now, but 7.5 points feels slightly large with Daniels healthy.
Washington has already shown it can score against quality opposition, and Daniels’ rushing ability gives the Commanders a chance to extend drives even when protection breaks down.
The 52.5 total looks more attractive to the over. San Francisco has scored at least 24 points in every game and just participated in a 61-point game against Seattle. Washington’s last game produced 54 combined points.
Washington makes this competitive because Daniels generates several explosive plays with his legs and finds McLaurin downfield.
But San Francisco is deeper, more consistent and significantly better at turning opponents’ mistakes into points.
Purdy delivers another efficient performance, Kittle makes several important third-down catches and the 49ers improve to 6-0.
