Thursday Night Football brings an intriguing matchup to Mile High when the Seattle Seahawks visit the Denver Broncos in a battle between two 3-2 teams trying to strengthen their early playoff position.
Seattle enters on a frustrating 32-29 loss to San Francisco, a game in which four turnovers repeatedly put the Seahawks’ defense in impossible situations. Denver moved above .500 with a 23-17 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers, powered largely by three defensive takeaways and five sacks.
Seattle is a three-point road favorite, while the low 40.5-point total suggests oddsmakers expect defense to dominate Thursday night.
Matchup: Seattle Seahawks at Denver Broncos Date: Thursday, October 15, 2026 Kickoff: 8:15 PM ET TV/Streaming: Prime Video Venue: Empower Field at Mile High — Denver, Colorado Tickets: As low as $154 Point Spread: Seattle -3 Over/Under: 40.5
The Seattle -3 spread means the Seahawks must win by four points or more for a Seattle spread bet to cash. If Seattle wins by exactly three, the wager is normally a push. Denver +3 covers if the Broncos win outright or lose by one or two points.
Seattle’s biggest problem isn’t necessarily moving the football. It’s protecting it.
The Seahawks committed four turnovers against San Francisco, including two Sam Darnold interceptions and fumbles by Emanuel Wilson and George Holani. San Francisco converted Seattle mistakes into 21 points.
That wasted an otherwise strong performance by Seattle’s defense.
Despite allowing 32 points, the Seahawks held San Francisco to only 269 total yards, 14 first downs and a 4-for-12 conversion rate on third down. Seattle also recorded three sacks.
Darnold finished 18-of-29 for 195 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. He has now thrown for 755 yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions this season.
The unquestioned star of Seattle’s offense continues to be Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
Smith-Njigba caught five passes for 102 yards and a touchdown against San Francisco, giving him four 100-yard performances through five games. He enters Thursday with 37 catches, 583 yards and seven touchdowns.
Seattle needs more of that production—without the turnovers.
Denver’s formula against the Chargers was straightforward: keep the game close and let the defense create opportunities.
The Broncos forced three turnovers, recorded a critical fourth-down stop and finished with five sacks in the 23-17 victory. Denver scored 13 points off takeaways.
That could be particularly important against a Seattle offense that has surrendered 45 points off turnovers over its last three games.
The concern is Denver’s offense.
Quarterback Bo Nix completed 16 of 27 passes for only 123 yards and one touchdown against Los Angeles. Through five games, Nix has thrown for 942 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions.
Running back J.K. Dobbins provided some stability, rushing 18 times for a season-high 68 yards and a touchdown.
Denver cannot rely entirely on short fields against Seattle. The Broncos will eventually need Nix and the offense to sustain drives.
Prop availability and numbers vary by sportsbook, so these are target numbers to consider if offered near these ranges.
Smith-Njigba has surpassed 100 receiving yards in four of Seattle’s five games.
He has become Darnold’s clear No. 1 target and should remain heavily involved against Denver.
Prediction: Jaxon Smith-Njigba — 96 receiving yards
Darnold has thrown for only 168 and 195 yards over his last two games.
Denver’s pass rush could force Seattle to emphasize its ground game and shorter throws.
Prediction: Sam Darnold — 211 passing yards
Nix has produced fewer than 200 passing yards in three of Denver’s five games.
Seattle’s defense played much better than the 32 points allowed to San Francisco indicate.
Prediction: Bo Nix — 186 passing yards
Wilson has received 21 and 20 carries over Seattle’s last two games and rushed for 81 and 61 yards.
That workload gives him a good chance to clear a modest rushing number.
Prediction: Emanuel Wilson — 67 rushing yards
Smith-Njigba may be the best offensive player on the field. His combination of volume and explosiveness gives Seattle its clearest matchup advantage.
Darnold doesn’t need a massive statistical night. He needs to avoid the interceptions that have repeatedly created short fields for opponents.
Nix must produce more than he did against the Chargers if Denver is going to beat a Seattle defense playing at a high level.
Dobbins’ 68-yard performance last week gave Denver’s offense badly needed stability. Expect another substantial workload.
Seattle’s first priority is obvious: protect the football. The Seahawks have shown they can move the ball and defend at a high level, but turnovers have directly contributed to both losses.
Denver needs to pressure Darnold. The Broncos recorded five sacks against Justin Herbert and will look to force another mistake-prone Seattle performance.
Seattle also needs to get Smith-Njigba involved early while remaining patient with Wilson on the ground.
Denver must generate sustained offense rather than depending entirely on turnovers and favorable field position.
Seattle -3 is an interesting number because the Seahawks must win by four or more to cover.
Denver’s defense and Mile High home-field advantage make this dangerous, especially on a short week. However, Seattle’s defense may be the most underrated element of this matchup. The Seahawks allowed only 269 yards against San Francisco despite repeatedly defending short fields.
Denver’s offense, meanwhile, produced only 123 passing yards from Nix against the Chargers.
The 40.5 total points toward a defensive game, and the matchup supports that expectation.
Denver’s defense creates problems and forces Seattle into a field-position battle, but the Seahawks do a better job protecting the football than they did Sunday.
Smith-Njigba makes the biggest offensive plays of the night, Wilson helps control possession and Seattle’s defensive front keeps Nix from generating enough explosive plays.
Seattle 23, Denver 17
Betting Category Pick Best Bet Under 40.5 Against the Spread Seattle -3 Moneyline Seattle Over/Under Under 40.5 Top Prop Jaxon Smith-Njigba Over 79.5 Receiving Yards
Final Prediction: Seattle 23, Denver 17
Seattle wins by six points, which would cover the three-point spread. The projected 40 combined points would also finish narrowly under the 40.5 total.
